Thanks to everyone who helped make the annual Rad Onc Hope Lodge dinner another wonderful success. Thanks to all who provided food, drinks, storage containers, paper products and those who helped transporting, serving and cleaning up.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers. More than just a roof over their heads, it’s a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need. Each Hope Lodge community offers a supportive, homelike environment where guests can share a meal, join in the evening’s activities, or unwind in their own private room. Patients staying at a Hope Lodge must be in active cancer treatment.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Iowa City, which opened in 2008, offers 28 guest rooms located near treatment centers in the area.

For the fourth year in a row, the Department of Radiation Oncology was awarded the Outstanding Patient Experience Team Award by the Office of the Patient Experience. This award is voted for by the patients we treat and is a reflection of the consistency of the quality of the care that we deliver every day. In response to the question “How well staff worked together for your care”, we scored 90.35% which translates to a National Percentile Rank of 93%.
The awards presentation coincided with Marie Curie’s birthday and International Day of Medical Physics celebrated in style with decorated cookies!
