In the black corner, hailing from Centerville, Iowa, is Jim "The Persuader" Carney. A long time advocate for CRNAs, Carney has been legal counsel and lobbyist for the Iowa Association of Nurse Anesthetists for more than 30 years. He was recognized as an honorary member of the AANA / American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology in 2023, an award conferred on fewer than 25 individuals.

Fun facts about "The Persuader":
*1964 Iowa High School Individual Champion and 1965 Iowa Junior Champion in golf
*Runner-up in 1970 NCAA long drive contest (lost to Bobby Valentine – future PGA Tour player)
*2021 Iowa Golf Association Hall of Fame inductee

We have two fantastic champions going to the mat today for our SRNA Scholarship Fund. First up, in the gold corner, hailing from Iowa City, Iowa, is Cormac "The Gasser" O'Sullivan. Hooked on the Hawkeyes since he came to UI as an undergrad, O'Sullivan has been passing gas and teaching others how to do so at the CON since 1996.

Fun facts about "The Gasser":

* Had dreams of skiing professionally, but was better at crashing than skiing moguls.
* Is married to the Amazing Kirsten and has four Amazing Kids.
* Is one of 5 cousins, four of whom are nurses
* Two of his own children and one nephew are nurses or in school to become nurses.
