I am in a season of change. I’ve been interviewing and recounting stories from my career. I also have been reflecting on the aspects I enjoy and what keeps me engaged in nursing.
I’m drawn to critical care/emergency because I feel the deepest empathy and compassion for patients when they’re at their most vulnerable. Having seen and lived through so much myself, I’m able to connect with people in those intense, uncertain moments and give them real support. For me, the most meaningful part of nursing is standing with patients and families through their hardest times and witnessing the strength that emerges when healing begins. I find purpose in that space—where skilled care, human connection, and resilience intersect.
What’s more for me is the calling to support other nurses in the care they provide. Advocating not just for patients and families at the bedside but those working at the bedside. Ensuring those of service have what they need to provide care at a level that promotes resilience and limits moral injury.
I have had the pleasure of working alongside inspiring nurses and nurse leaders throughout my career, and I take with me the wisdom, guidance and strength they have and the belief that they have in me. I am thankful for being able to connect with colleagues who have become friends and those that continue to put their trust in the work that I do. Thank you is not enough to say how inspired, uplifted, and fulfilled I am by the healthcare workers I have met along the way. Looking ahead I am faithful in a new path unfolding to ensure service in my highest good and purpose.
Why do you do what you do?
