• Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday” in French and is the grand celebration before Lent.
• The traditional colors each have a meaning: Purple = Justice, Green = Faith, Gold = Power.
• Mask-wearing dates back to early Mardi Gras balls, where it allowed everyone to celebrate equally and freely.
• New Orleans has celebrated Mardi Gras for over 300 years!
