In honor of Labor Day—
Here’s to the moms who don’t clock out.
The ones who work 24/7, 365 days a year.
The ones whose labor never ends—packing lunches, wiping tears, juggling schedules, and carrying the invisible weight that no one else sees.
Yes, it’s a labor of love. But it’s still labor.
And it deserves to be recognized.
So let’s honor the moms whose job description is endless, whose breaks are rare, and whose love is constant.
You are the heartbeat of your families.
You are seen. You are valued. You are appreciated.
Happy Labor Day to the moms who never stop working.

Okay but… can we not play the “just wait” game every time a mom opens up?
Motherhood is already hard enough without being met with a warning label at every stage.
Instead of brushing off a mom’s struggle with a “just wait,” how about:
“I hear you.”
“You’re doing amazing.”
“This part is brutal, but you’re not alone.”
Because when I was drowning in sleepless nights, blowouts, tantrums, and all the tears (mine and theirs)…
I didn’t need a countdown to the next storm.
I needed someone to sit in the rain with me and remind me I’d make it through.
Validate her. Support her. She’s already carrying enough.

A beautiful poem by Jennifer Giles
This is the story
Of a pumpkin of white
What is its place on this autumn night?
Amidst all the orange and colors of fall
It seems out of place; not belonging at all
But oh what a place, and oh what a story
You see, in its face lies the image of glory
Of babies so small, so incredibly tiny
Perfect in purpose, their souls shining brightly
No less a baby, a child just the same
As one who was held and called by their name
Was my baby a he?
Or was she a she?
What would my child have grown up to be?
Yet bigger than questions and what ifs and whys
Is the comfort they feel when they look to the skies
For their hope is the truth that they so tightly cling
“I’ll know all the answers, understand everything
on the day that God hands my child back to me”
This pumpkin is sweet baby boys and girls
Who never opened their eyes to this world
Never cried, never feared
Protected from pain
Touched by their innocence
We’re never the same
Lives perfect and pure
All things lovely and sweet
And we honor them here
‘Till heaven we meet
This pumpkin is all of the sweet little ones
Whose lives although short were covered in love
In kisses and snuggles, rocking and playing
Their parents not knowing they wouldn’t be staying
But the time that they had they would never trade
Even if they could be saved from the pain
Their cribs may be empty, but the promise remains
One day they’ll hold their babies again
This pumpkin is for all these sweet angel friends
Whose parents all know this isn’t the end
And how they are doing
Tonight up in heaven
Is better than anything we could imagine
Though we’re missing our children
And we’re still on this side
Our hearts will continue to swell with pride
At the special, the wondrous, the out of place things
Like this white pumpkin, and the joy that it brings
A reminder that our children are more than alive
They are perfectly whole, all things are made right
Angel parents, I know there’s still tears to be shed
But I hope that this pumpkin brings peace instead
Our babies are promised forever in heaven
And that’s the best gift we could ever be given.

My specialty has first & foremost evolved through personal experiences & life stages, which have helped me understand trauma & perinatal issues at a deeper level than education & training can bring. I am a wife & mama first, & then a therapist.
And I’m sure you want to know about my official qualifications besides just my own personal experiences (that’s fair). I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist & certified in perinatal mental health. I have been in practice for six years. I hold a BA in Psychology from UCLA, & an MA in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. I have specialized training in maternal mental health, am trained in EMDR to help reprocess through symptoms such as perinatal mood & anxiety disorders, PTSD, early attachment issues, intergenerational trauma, depression, anxiety, etc.
My travels & international experiences doing clinical work in East Africa have given me a passion for cross-cultural counseling. I have extensive experience (here in Orange County as well as cross-cultural counseling experience in Kenya) working with those who have walked through traumatic life experiences, those living with HIV/AIDS, those struggling with addiction/substance abuse, & college students struggling with identity issues & self-harm behaviors. In addition to being a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I am a former Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor.
My husband & I created the group Baby Bumps & Brushes during our own pregnancy, an expressive arts therapeutic group to help process through a variety of perinatal stages. We work together as Couple for Couples Counseling, & see couples together as a couple offering weekly therapy & intensive therapy, retreats, groups & workshops. We are Level I & II trained in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, & are educators for the Gottman Institute’s programs, Bringing Baby Home & the 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work.
I emphasize a holistic approach focusing on mind, body, spirit, soul & community as interactive forces. If you know anything about psychological orientations, I fall under a humanistic/existential/experiential approach. What this means is I generally perceive you as the expert of your life & I take on the role of consultant. I am an open, genuine, & real person, & come from the belief that humans are fundamentally good. I believe trauma & past experiences discolor and taint our perceptions & ultimately our lives, & I work to dig deep into the root of the problems for long-term benefits rather than just addressing the symptoms for short-term relief. I walk alongside you on your journey towards healing as a fellow human being, & facilitate growth through uncovering your authentic goodness & true self that has been muddled by the “ick” (the actual clinical term). Other than that - I utilize a variety of expressive arts therapies including visual arts, music, journaling/writing, movement, etc.. I’m a dancer - currently hula - and I love bringing a creative approach to my therapy sessions. I look forward to connecting with you and walking with you on this path of healing.
