Beware of eating wild mushrooms! 🍄‍🟫Mushrooms can be found outside all around us, in parks, backyards, or walking outside. Kids can touch or potentially eat them, so make sure to be careful and watchful at all times, as some mushrooms are very toxic.

Some mushrooms, like death cap or western destroying angel mushrooms, are deadly. Due to increased cases of poisonous mushroom ingestion leading to deaths and liver transplants, CDPH has urged Californians to not eat any wild foraged mushrooms.

How to swaddle a baby?

Swaddling might seem complicated but it doesn’t have to be. A PICU nurse who’s done it thousands of times taught me a simple way.

You don’t need a fancy swaddling blanket and it doesn’t need to be perfect. All you need is a square/rectangular blanket (something soft, like muslin).

Extra Tips:
⭐️ Make sure that the swaddle is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit 2-3 fingers between the chest and blanket.
⭐️ Always place swaddled babies on their backs to sleep.
⭐️Stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows any signs of trying to roll over.

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a serious health risk for babies and young children. It’s incredibly common – as many as 80,000 kids under 5 are hospitalized with RSV each year. About all kids under 2 will get it at some point. For many babies, RSV symptoms look like a mild cold, but some children get very sick with it.

Protect your baby during cold and flu season with a preventative monoclonal antibody shot. Since the RSV shot was approved by the FDA in 2023, Grace Pediatrics has not hospitalized a single child who has received the RSV antibody for RSV. This has meant fewer emergency visits, fewer hospitalizations, and far less suffering for babies and families. And it brings immense relief and joy to those of us who care for children every day 💛.

Acetaminophen or ibuprofen? 🤔Every child is unique. Which is why I always recommend parents to use whichever fever reducer works best for their child.

Is your baby sick and suffering from nasal congestion? 🤧 The happy sinus massage is an easy way to help open up the sinuses, clear mucus, and relieve pressure.

What to do: Cradle the head and use your thumbs to gently stroke from the bridge of the nose out, following the sinus down.

Extra tip: You can also have a humidifier in the background to provide further congestion relief!

Car safety means keeping your children buckled in the appropriate car seat EVERY TIME!

Whether you’re using a rear-facing car seat, forward-facing car seat, booster seat, or regular seat belt, it’s important to use the right option for their age and size. Make sure that it’s installed properly and ensure that all straps/harnesses fit snugly and correctly. Check the car seat manuals or ask a professional if you have questions.

Car seats can be complicated! Did you know that Irvine Police Departments (and many other police departments) provide car seat inspections and child passenger safety classes? Grace Pediatrics can also help you with any questions!
