While not all foot and ankle specialists are created equal, when searching for a Foot and Ankle Surgeon to address your condition, a good start is board certification.

Our American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons represents the surgical side of our profession and our members have gone the extra-mile to first earn board qualification, associate members (AACFAS), followed by board certification, fellow members (FACFAS), with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS).

When looking for a foot and ankle surgeon to best treat your condition in your area; we recommend finding an ACFAS foot and ankle surgeon near you at Foot Health Facts, our patient eduction site for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Sometimes, it’s obvious that you need to seek help for a foot or ankle issue, but other times it’s less clear. Many symptoms—even those you can tolerate—may require professional attention to keep the underlying condition from worsening. From diabetes, pain, changes in appearance or abnormal growths, foot and ankle surgeons are trained to make all reasonable efforts to treat foot and ankle problems non-surgically if at all possible. Find a foot and ankle surgeon near you on our site.

Everyone has been talking about Aaron Rodgers season ending Achilles tendon injury after only a few plays with the New York Jets. These are serious injuries, requiring prompt treatment. It’s an honor to be a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and to represent our profession. Any Achilles tendon injury should be promptly assessed by an ACFAS foot and ankle surgeon.

The minimalist or barefoot running shoe trend stems from trying to return how our ancestors often walked and ran barefoot around the countryside. However, our world (the surfaces we run on) and our bodies have evolved over time. According to Foot and Ankle Surgeon, Dr. Michael Coyer, while minimalist shoes may work in some athletes, most people are better served and less likely to suffer pain or injury with more of a typical stiff-soled athletic running shoe.

As posted before, 3 dimensional correction is not something based on any one specific product or company. It can be accomplished with many types of fixation, whether screws, plates, or a combination.

This was done with Paragon28 - medial plating, 4.0 cortical “home run” screw, and 8mm staple.

Ankle arthritis is degeneration of the cartilage that covers the ends of the bones that form the ankle joint. In cases where conservative treatments have failed, surgery is often necessary to alleviate symptoms. The goal of ankle arthrodesis (ankle fusion) is to relieve pain and maintain or improve function for a patient with ankle arthritis.

Achilles Tendon Rupture in Orange County

Sudden pain (which feels like a kick or a stab) in the back of the ankle or calf, swelling on the back of the leg, and difficulty walking.

Treatment approaches for Achilles tendon injuries are selected on the basis of how long the injury has been present and the degree of damage to the tendon. Treatment may consist of either non-surgical or surgical treatment, depending on the degree of injury, the patient's general health, and patient's activity level.
