Hot Take: Your child’s OT session should look like fun.
Children learn best through play, and we all learn best when we aren’t stressed. Following adult instructions is important, but OT is all about the just-right challenge and meeting the child where they are at. If I plan an AMAZING activity, but a child comes in and isn’t interested, then we won’t be doing that. Forcing will just result in frustration for the child, a non-productive session, and broken rapport. If your child’s OT session looks like fun and games, then your therapist is doing their job.
