DOES ACUPUNCTURE FOR INFERTILITY WORK?

It has been shown again and again in studies that acupuncture increases pregnancy rates.

In 2002, a German study tested a control group of 80 women who underwent just IVF alone. And another group of 80 women that went through IVF and were given acupuncture treatments at the same time. The group that received acupuncture at the same time had almost double the pregnancy success rate of the control group!

In the US study in 2014, it was documented that 51% of women who underwent both acupuncture and in vitro fertilization treatment became pregnant. Whereas the control group of women who did not undergo acupuncture treatments, only 36% became pregnant.

In 2003, Weil Medical Center of Cornell University called for a study of acupuncture as a fertility treatment, citing its numerous benefits associated with increasing fertility in woman. An article provide a summary of research that support acupuncture potential benefits for fertility treatment, including the stimulation of increased uterine blood flow and fertility hormones.

The Difference Between Western and Chinese Medicine (2)

With Chinese herbal medicine, the prescription taken was adjusted accordingly by the condition of a body. When the symptoms and health condition improves, the less amount of medication is required. The patient’s health condition gets better gradually as body’s constitution improves. As a result, the treatment by Chinese medicine is usually with a better long-term result as it allows patient undergo changes day by day with decreased amount of medication and until the body get recovered ultimately and no longer require any medication.

The Difference Between Western and Chinese Medicine Part 1

The important difference between Western and Chinese medicine is that the Chinese medicine uses different approach to treat the source of medical problem(s) by understand human body’s constitution and activates body’s self healing process whereas Western medicine only diagnose and treat the symptoms regardless the body constitution. With conventional Western medicine, it focuses on removing the symptoms and patient may show or experience “instant” improvement after taking the medication in the beginning of treatment. But the patient usually requires medication for certain period of time. If the symptom(s) persist or longer treatment requires, more medications may be taken. If the medication stops during the treatment, the symptom(s) may persist or worsen and some patient may develop side-effect or become addiction or dependence on medication.

Health Tip of the Week: The Importance of Completing The Treatment Process

Q:If I am 70% recovered, should I let it heal on its own like a cold, and not continue the treatments?

A: Acupuncture is used to regulate body’s Qi and blood circulations. 70% recovery is like clearing half way of a clogged drain pipe, it will definitely be clogged again. It can also be said that being sick is like a screw that is loosened. The doctor has to screw it back. If during the treatment process the patient feels better and stops the treatment on his or her own, it will be like a half-tightened screw that will come loose again anytime. So it is necessary to be patient and complete the treatment process so the sickness will not reoccur, just like a tight screw that will not loosen easily. Make sure to continue the treatment until you are fully recovered to avoid any symptom from becoming chronic because of incomplete treatments. If the condition becomes chronic, the treatment will cost you more time and money.

Explanations of Acupuncture Treatment Process

Acupuncture treatments can be differentiated on the basis of two conditions:

Acute conditions:The earlier the treatments are received after injury, the better the results will be. Three to five treatments may be sufficient.
Chronic conditions (illness postponed for a long time without treatments): Under such condition, treatment is divided into four stages as illustrated below:
Stage 1: Intensive Tx Period: 3 Txs/week, until about 60% recovered.

Stage 2: Continued Tx Period: 2 Tx/week, until about 90% recovered.

Stage 3: Recovery Period: 1 Tx/week, until the condition does not recur again during this period of time.

Stage 4: Observation and Maintenance Period: After you have recovered from the condition, you must take good care of your body, especially the weak point that needs special care. Just as you need to perform annual car maintenance and undergo a dental check-up, you also need to schedule appointment for your check-up after the treatment. If a patient’s (including weight-loss patients) condition recur, he or she would need to come back to receive treatment as soon as possible

Health Tip of the Week: Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are completely different from injection needles used by Western Medicine. The injection needles
used by Western Medicine are generally bigger and the injections are targeted on area such as big blood vessels so they
are painful. Modern acupuncture needles are ultra-fine and quite flexible like hairs. They are inserted on acupoints
where they are at specific locations that are between muscles not big blood vessels, so they are not painful. When
inserted, patient has just a little sensation of soreness, numbness, distension, and or tingling.
- Dr. Chun-Ming Fu

Long story short: modern acupuncture needles are extra fine and patients only feel a slight sensation of tingling.

Acupuncture and Herbs for Insomnia

Insomnia ranks high, right behind the common cold, stomach disorders and headaches as a reason why people seek a doctor’s help. There are about one-third of adults complained that they woke up in the midnight and couldn’t continue their sleep.

No matter if you can not continue the sleep in the midnight or can not fall asleep at the beginning, acupuncture and herbs are all very helpful to relieve the condition.

There is the theory of Yin-Yang in Chinese medicine. Yang is like the day time, sun, hot, fire, dry... Yin is like the night time, moon, cold, water, wet... If Yin and Yang are balance in your body, you will feel comfortable, peaceful and healthy. If Yin is too low (Yin deficiency), you will feel too much Yang (Heat) in your body, the heat will disrupt your sleep.

Having a good night sleep will increase the Yin. On the contrary, insomnia will cause your Yin deficiency, so your condition will be getting worse, this is a vicious circle.

If you are suffered from insomnia , you need to get help as soon as possible to change your sleep disorder.

Acupuncture and herbs work by increasing Yin and reducing heat in the body to treat this condition. They are the natural ways to release your insomnia with no side effect at all.

Acupuncture for Headache:

More than 45 million Americans get headaches time and time again. About 18 million of them suffer migraines.

If you have been suffering from severe headache for 5 years, 10 years, 20 years or 30 years, feel your condition worsen, and increasing your dosage of painkillers one after another. Try acupuncture treatment for your headache! Acupuncture is able to solve your problem completely, using the natural way to release your headache with no side effect at all.

Acupuncture works by stimulating acu-points to normalize the circulation of Qi and blood. I use different acu-points of meridian for different types of headache. For example, I use Shao-Yang meridian for temple headache. This way I can heal the headache most effectively.

Duke University researchers found out acupuncture treatment is more effective than medication in reducing the severity and frequency of choronic headaches.
