What an amazing year 2021 has been. It really was incredible to say the least.

If you would have told me this time last year that I would be relocating 1,426 miles from Tulsa, OK to Irvine, CA… would meet and work with so many incredible people from stay at home parents to professional athletes to food service workers to serial entrepreneurs to film and tv behind the scenes rockstars to celebrities to students to heath / medical / wellness professionals and everyone in between… I would not have believed you even 0.01%, but … it happened 🙆🏻‍♂️.

I’m so grateful on this life’s journey of being a bodyworker. So far, it has been 10 years to get to this point from being a hair dresser to bodyworker, but to think… to exist now, in this very moment, during this brief point of the infinite ♾ timeline is quite remarkable. Just below you’ll see the infinite timeline and a dot. That dot is your full life, your moment, your point in time.

I remember this quote I once read as a child that said something along the lines of… One minute wasted, is one minute you can never get back. So make the most of your time and choose wisely how you spend it. Although our lease on life varies in time, I am more careful of how to spend my given minutes. Time as you know is the only non-renewable currency we have, once it is spent… it is gone forever.

A lot can happen in a year as I can attest to this, but if you’re reading this…

don’t give up on your vision board,
don’t give up on your goals,
don’t give up on your dreams,
don’t give up on your passions,
don’t give up on your faith,
don’t give up on yourself…

You can do this.

🙆🏻‍♂️ I sincerely thank you to all of my clients… past, present, and future. Especially to those of you with me from the beginning as I began in Tulsa, OK 2019. Without your support and bodywork sessions, I would not have made it this far or be here. Truly, from the entirety of who I am, thank you 🙏🏼.

⭐️ Cheers to 2022 ⭐️

Can we skip to the good part?

😅 I wish it was that easy sometimes but change takes time.

This is something I have to remind myself regularly. The perfectionist and results driven nature in me would love to achieve the best results as quick as possible which in some cases is very doable, I must remember that change takes time. It may occur quickly in some cases but slowly for others… every puzzle is different but hey, change is change and I’m so grateful to be a part of this journey.

“Trust the process.”

Thank you for the opportunity to help 🙏🏼!

True story:

At age 22, when I worked as a mental health worker, a patient had asked me for a “sanitary napkin.”

I reacted quickly to fulfill her request but clever me thought to pick up a few napkins and squeeze a dollop of hand sanitizer on it.

Me: “Here you go.”

Patient: “Is this a joke?

Me: “No, it’s what you asked for, a sanitary napkin. Sanitizer and napkin.”

Patient: “No, you idiot… A PAD!”

Me: 😅 “Why didn’t you just say so? I’ve never heard of a sanitary napkin before.”

Coworker: “Wait, how old are you again?”

Me: “22.”

Coworker: “That’s okay, we’ll let that slide this time. You’re still learning.”

It’s true, we learn something new everyday 😂

Haha, I love this human.

Here’s a brief clip over Thanksgiving break of our “Healing Hands Day” prior to us doing bodywork on each other. It’s been over 1 year since we’ve had the opportunity to treat each other. 🙏🏼

Roger got to experience for the first time and loved them so much that I gifted him a pair! Matching black shoes for he and I. 🙌

I was also a little concerned about experiencing pain from our bodywork session (since I have a low pain tolerance) so Roger glass dropped a home nervine remedy used to calm nerves and made from Monotropa Uniflora: a.k.a. “ghost plant, ghost pipe, or Indian pipe,” an herbaceous perennial plant native to temperate regions of Asia, North America, and northern South America. It definitely helped ease my nervous system.

I love the latter half of this video clip. 😂

Pelvis + Legs

💢 Slight lumbothoracic spine and pelvis twisted right forward

💢 Left pelvic tilt
💢 Left pelvic upslip
💢 Left “short leg” 1/2 inch

✨ SWIPE TO SEE THE AFTER CHANGES!

🤔 Changes in bone alignment driven by soft tissue tension imbalances.

How we sleep, sit, favor one leg, rest, stand, drive, work, play sport, and do life… they’re tough conscious and subconscious habits to break.

Not that anything is wrong with the way we habitually do these things per se, however they over time can cause compensations / imbalances to build and build and build and build. When layers and layers begin to stack and muscle imbalances settle in, eventually pain is often the result. And pain is just our body telling us, hey something is out of wack and we need to do something about this before it gets worse. So please don’t ignore your body thinking it will just one day go away. Sometimes it does go away BUT the underlying pattern is still there.

One helpful thing to keep in mind is that when we are awake and aware, sometimes professional help and/or implementing movements to counter balance these hardwired patterns are key to reversing and resetting our body’s balance.

What is an example?
Let’s say you have a long time subconscious habit of crossing your right leg behind to sit on your foot. Over time, this will cause changes to muscle length / tension and bone alignment.

If you’re able to catch yourself sitting on the right foot… mix it up by sitting in the left foot once in a while or best, try not to sit on your foot at all. Our body will change and adapt to how we use it most. When we use our body in the same manner day in and day out, it will start to mold into that pattern. Movement diversification is good! It’s key to countering these common patterns.

Mix up your movements! 🕺🏽
Stretch
Walk backwards
Reach over head
Pull shoulders back
Look up
Anything…
Something!

Just mix up your daily movements so the body doesn’t adapt to the same ol’ same ol’ pattern(s)

You got this… let’s get moving!

In 2011, I was a college student and working both as a hairdresser and outpatient rehabilitation technician, this man intuitively discovered my gifted ability to help others when he challenged me to work on one of his patients for an hour.

I felt so clueless and although I had no training at that time, he said I had corrected 75% of that patients issues.

Roger asked, “What did you do?”

I replied, “I’m not sure, I just worked on the areas I felt needed work.”

Roger said, “ That’s exactly it. You have the ability to know what you’re doing without knowing what you were doing. You’re intuitive. I have been a therapist since 1984 and of all the therapists and students I have trained, you are only the second person I’ve met who has this natural talent. Now it’s up to you what you want to do with it.”

Unsure of what this direction would have for my life, I decided to walk down this path. Roger helped shape me to who I am today.

The truth is, if it wasn’t for him I would not be a bodyworker today.

I’m thankful and grateful for you Roger.

My turn

It’s been over a year since I’ve received proper intuitive manual therapy to help restore balance within my own body.

Thank you to my mentor, Roger, for helping me on our mini “healing hands day” this past weekend.

Now that you’ve helped me, I can continue to help others. 🙏🏼

I love to surf and would love to continue surfing as long as I can. I want to take care of my body now and be able to move. Everything on the right side of my body is affected. My right hip has been stuck like this (see photo) forever. Also, my right elbow clicks, my right arm / hand sometimes feels numb / tingling.” - Client

“My low back hurts when I do this.”
- Client

We tested this wheel pose movement which has been causing her discomfort / pain. She mentioned that she hasn’t been able to fully perform certain movements because of her lower back pain.

“When I lay flat on my stomach, my back also hurts.” - Client

Much of the bodywork session time was focused working with muscles along the spine, in between ribs, pelvic crest, sacrum, and diaphragm, shoulders.

Re-tested the wheel pose post session and viola, no more lower back pain for this spunky dancer. 🤸‍♀️

Two side stretch variations for his self-care maintenance.

The first stretch is focused on opening up the upper-middle side while the second stretch is focused on the lower side / back muscles.

These slow and controlled stretches can be done on both sides but held longer on the side where more tension is felt. For him, it is his left.

“My shoulders feel uneven and out of place.” - Client

📷: Check out the postural differences in his shoulder and arm / hand positioning.

💭 This busy teen has been concerned for a long time about his posture and R shoulder getting worse as he ages.

The holding pattern was so deeply engrained in his body / muscle tissues that I was pretty physically spent after working to unfold his body.

Although we were able to make drastic improvements in his first session, he’ll need to catch and redirect his subconscious / conscious postural habits but also implement a few simple self care stretches, exercises, soft tissue techniques for long term results.

We have to keep in mind that when habits and muscle memory patterns are so strong, it can very easily pull the body back out of wack so with a little bit of effort and self care consistency, the body will keep balance.

“Whoa, I just looked at myself in the mirror and my shoulder doesn’t pop out anymore.” - Client

Kämē: The Art of Manual Therapy.

Kämē Bodywork: Inspired by Origami, the Japanese art form of folding paper. Our body, much like a piece of paper, is very delicate but strong. It can bend, twist, tear, wrinkle, fold, and unfold. As the body navigates through life, it often times adapts to lifestyle behaviors or changes due to unforeseen events which may cause the soft tissues to change in such a way that “folds” the body. This folding, or holding pattern, affects the way our body feels and moves. Kämē Bodywork exists to unfold and refold these patterns to allow the body to move as it was designed to do.
