This Black History Month, we’re honored to highlight local artist Lauren Halsey.

While we often feature the work of African American architects, this year we’re celebrating Halsey’s practice, which powerfully bridges art and architecture. Her installation The Roof Garden Commission: “the eastside of south central Los Angeles hieroglyph prototype architecture” transforms space into a living archive reflecting identity, shared history, and a deep sense of place. Though the work is no longer on view at The Met in NYC, we greatly admire how Halsey creates environments that foster belonging, and we look forward to her upcoming Los Angeles exhibition opening in March.
