Cerna specializes in memory care for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Gardening can be an enjoyable outdoor activity for people at all stages of dementia as a means of exercise for the body and the brain. Cerna caregivers vary the activity to suit the care recipient's abilities. Whether gardening potted plants, or tending to a lawn or garden, activities like planting, pruning, weeding, and raking can help strengthen the body's muscles, improve breathing and grow smiles.😀

Try this easy craft for seniors with dementia: Cerna Homecare care recipients enjoy the feel of *play dough in their hands. Making shapes and kneading it is a fun and relaxing activity for all ages. Grab cookie cutters too & watch your older adult have a ball! DIYer? Search online for homemade play dough recipes. ❗️ *Play dough is not edible and can contain bacteria.

At Cerna we grieve and empathize with our clients when their loved one dies. Maria, a sweet Cerna care recipient, passed away last week. Her daughter Lisa texted Cerna's Care Coordinator, Francine to thank her for her compassion and kindness. If time permitted Lisa would have loved to, "take you to lunch, or dinner, or drinks" to show her appreciation. You will be missed Maria.
💙 Cerna is grateful to have Francine Bueche on our team.

Cerna services spotlight: "Bathing/Grooming”. This task of daily living can get lax or overlooked as people age because of cognitive reasons, physical challenges, an aversion or fear - or all of the above. 🚿 It is a sensitive subject to approach, but one that should be addressed, especially if you have noticed your loved one looks or smells unkempt.
🚿 Helping an aging adult with hygiene takes patience, preparation, and skill.
🚿 It's not uncommon for a senior to prefer a caregiver assist with hygiene as they can actually be more vulnerable and uncomfortable with a son/daughter or spouse.
🚿 Most important is to be delicate and respectful in resolving the issue in a manner that puts the aging adult at ease.
🚿 A Cerna caregiver can assist, while being respectful and compassionate. It's what they do!

Another great match made by Cerna Homecare! Care Coordinator Francine shared this adorable picture! Cambria lives in Denver; Cerna cares for her mom Terry, who lives in Newport Beach. Apparently, Cerna and caregiver Katherine made a beautiful impression on both of them. Cambria's text to Francine also said, "I arrived last night and my mom is the best she’s been in a year plus... 'Thank you' just doesn’t seem to cover how grateful I am." 💙
