Have you heard the news? It is pretty big - looking forward to an incredible 2022!

"We have received funding from the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s IBD Ventures program to further develop 11 Health’s digitally connected Remote Output Monitor (ROM) to automatically track and monitor stoma patients’ output levels and provide alerts to patients of impending complications.

The ROM gathers stoma data for the patient and their medical team. The ROM connects wirelessly to the 11 Health App. In the app, patients can review their personal data including risk of dehydration. In turn, the patient’s medical team is able to view the patient’s data through the 11 Health Clinical Dashboard – a HIPAA compliant, remote patient monitoring platform.

Funding from IBD Ventures will support further development of the ROM. The next generation ROM will improve the overall accuracy of daily volume output to help predict and reduce dehydration related complications, achieve lower
manufacturing costs to enable broader access to this unique technology solution, and produce even greater comfort and flexibility."

Today we observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Did you know that having an ostomy means that you are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? This is because there is record that you are living with the impairment of a major body function.

It is important to remember that not every disability is visible. You may not know what someone else may be going through, dealing with, or living with.

Today marks the beginning of IBD Awareness Week.

What is IBD? IBD stands for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is characterized by two conditions: Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Having IBD does NOT mean that you will ultimately end up with an ostomy bag, however an ostomy is one surgical treatment path.

Phil Christianson is CEO at Health Smart and has more than 30 years of experience leading divisions of Fortune 100 Companies and improving mid-sized companies providing healthplan administration services, disease management, SaaS and health information technology to health plan providers, health plans and employers.

11 Health was created from a hospital bed in Oxford, United Kingdom. Our founder and CEO, Michael Seres, suffers from severe Crohns Disease for most of his life and he ultimately required an intestinal transplant and an ileostomy. Michael was the 11th person in the UK to have this procedure.

Michael's post-operative care as an ileostomy patient was far from ideal and this mirrored the experiences of other patients. Despite the huge advances and improvements in healthcare globally, stoma patients were still being treated with the same bags and the same archaic principles. It was as if time had stood still.

The vision for 11 Health is to create a connected care community where everyone is valued equally. A community consisting of patients, doctors, nurses, hospitals and insurance companies all of whom benefit – a family supporting each other united by a desire to make a difference.
