JB Wiseman, born September 4, 1939, to Lilly Neal Wiseman and Jake Wiseman in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away March 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
JB was a graduate of his beloved Irvine High School and a proud Irvine Eagle. He participated in all sports and carried a love for athletics throughout his life—not just as a player and coach, but as a devoted fan. Though he once wore the black and white stripes as a referee, he was always quick to challenge any official who made a call against Estill County or UK. Many will remember him as their number one fan.
He was a retired employee of the L&N/CSX Railroad. JB was also well known for caring for many lawns throughout the communities of Irvine and Ravenna. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served more than 20 years in the Army Reserve, retiring as a First Sergeant in 1996. If you listened to his stories, you might believe he was the very best at everything he did.
JB loved his family with all his heart and had a special fondness for children. He was intentional about spending time with family, and keeping traditions alive was important to him. He loved the Lord and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church, where he attended services for many years before his illness.
He is survived by his wife, Janis May Hovermale Wiseman; his children, Jay Alan Wiseman and wife Jennifer, John David Wiseman, and Judy Wiseman Winkler and husband Chris; his grandchildren, Joshua Clay Winkler and wife Sarah, Jay Christopher Winkler and wife Baleigh, and Allie Wiseman; and his great-grandchildren, Conley Clay Winkler, Alexander Cole Winkler, Cambri Elizabeth Winkler, and Milani Taige Wiseman–Johnson, along with many extended family members and special friends.
His family will always be grateful for his dedication, loyalty, support, and love.
Pallbearers will be Josh Winkler, Jay Winkler, Clint Wiseman, Darrell Tate, Edward John Wilson, and Clay Baber.
Honorary pallbearers are his softball teammates, fellow reservists, and his CSX bridge crew.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice Care Plus of Richmond, Kentucky, The Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or The Legends (Boosters of Estill County High School).
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home on Main Street in Irvine. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He will be remembered for his love of family, his devotion to his community, and for always being Estill County’s number one fan.
