Tip Tuesday ℹ

Taking care of your teeth isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing it correctly.

Brushing harder doesn’t mean cleaner teeth. In fact, too much pressure can wear down enamel and irritate your gums. A soft brush with gentle, thorough movements is best.

Flossing daily helps remove plaque and bacteria from places your toothbrush simply can’t reach, this is one of the biggest factors in preventing cavities between teeth and early gum disease.

And when it comes to drinks, it’s not just sugar, it’s acid too. Sodas, energy drinks, coffee, and even juice can weaken enamel over time, especially when sipped throughout the day.

Small daily habits make a long-term difference in your oral health.

🦷 Myth Monday 🦷

Myth: Sugar is the only thing that causes cavities.

Fact: It’s not just about sugar, it’s about how often and how long your teeth are exposed to it (and other carbs). Foods like bread, chips, pasta, and even some fruits break down into sugars that feed cavity-causing bacteria.

Every time you snack or sip on something other than water, acids are produced that can weaken your enamel. Over time, this can lead to cavities if your teeth aren’t properly protected.

✨ What you can do:
• Limit frequent snacking and sipping
• Rinse with water after eating
• Brush twice a day and floss daily
• Keep up with your regular dental visits

That tiny first tooth is an exciting milestone. It also marks the perfect time for your child’s first dental visit. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling a child’s first dental appointment by their first birthday or when the first tooth appears. Early visits help parents learn how to care for their child’s teeth and allow dentists to monitor healthy development from the very beginning. Starting dental care early helps build healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Spring allergy season is here, and it can affect more than just your sinuses. Seasonal allergies often lead to mouth breathing and dry mouth, which reduces the amount of saliva protecting your teeth. When saliva levels drop, bacteria can build up more easily and increase the risk of cavities and gum irritation. Staying hydrated and keeping up with good brushing and flossing habits can help protect your smile during allergy season. A healthy routine goes a long way in keeping your teeth strong all year long.

Nothing better than continuing education with a familiar face!

Dr. Bristow attended a CE course with Dr. Anver and these two actually attended dental school together!

Great to reconnect while learning new techniques to continue providing excellent care for our patients. 🦷
