Can grief be permanent?

The answer is yes and it has a name... PGD or Prolonged Grief Disorder

Grief is a universal experience that can be challenging and stressful. Most grievers will, in time, adjust to the loss of a loved one and resume daily activities and relationships. However, there is a small proportion of bereaved individuals who experience intense emotional pain that prevents them from socializing, working, or engaging in life.

Around 7-10% of PGD is estimated to affect more adults who experience the death of a loved one months and years after their death.

PGD signs: intense sadness, emotional numbness, guilt, and identity disruption, intense loneliness, feeling life is meaningless, and avoidance.

Studies show that ACT, or acceptance and commitment therapy, helps people accept rather than avoid emotions, such as Grief, and it also reduces anxiety.

'Tis the season of Grief for many families and individuals alike. One way to cope with grief is to seek counsel with a licensed grief counselor or church grief groups. You don't have to go on this journey alone. If you or anyone you know of is experiencing PGD and want help navigating through this difficult time in life. I am here to help you.
