Forest Friends was all about Evergreen Trees and pine cones today. Christina Roelofs, Shelby County Conservation Board, showed us how to tell the difference between pine, fir, and spruce trees with samples of their pine needles. The kids LOVED the fresh smell of pine! There was a variety of pine cones in all different shapes and sizes for the kids to see, including two huge pine cones from a sugar pine and coulter tree. Big kids had a bit of "homework" with a tree wordsearch and a worksheet on deciduous vs. evergreen trees. There were several stations for kids to craft: pom pom pine cone ornaments, bird feeders, and observation bottle, and Christmas tree decorating.

Can you believe Christmas is next week?! Get in the Christmas spirit by checking out a Christmas movie or book at the Lied Irwin Public Library. We are open this week Tuesdays: 3-6pm, Thursdays: 9am-Noon, and Saturdays: 9am-11am.

Our December book club discussion was truly something magical! Last night we gathered to talk about "Once Upon a Wardrobe", a heartfelt story inspired by the world of Narnia and the power of imagination. Just like stepping through the wardrobe door, our conversation transported us into themes of hope, wonder, and the stories that stay with us for a lifetime.

We had a wonderful turnout, and the evening felt even more festive with Christmas cookies and warm cider to enjoy while we chatted. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Our next book club is B.Y.O.B. on January 27th at 6:30pm.

Our Stocking Silent Auction is underway at the Lied Irwin Public Library. This is the last week to place your bids. Get some Christmas shopping done and support the library at the same time! Money raised will go towards the 2026 Summer Reading Program.

Thank you to the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Santa for coming to the Lied Irwin Public Library. Santa had a lot of Christmas wishes to read! Thank you to the library board for decorating the library for the Christmas holiday and for providing goodies for everyone to enjoy.

This year’s holiday theme is stockings. Stop by this afternoon between 3-5 and take a look at our display. There will be a cookie exchange at 4pm. We also have 5 theme filled stockings on silent auction to help raise money for our Summer Reading Programs. Themes include Art supplies, Reading a Book, Scentsy, Golf, Birds, & Wine. Winners will be announced next week!

Christmas Cookie (or other yummy goodie) Exchange tomorrow afternoon at 4pm. Bring 4 dozen of one kind of cookie along with an empty container and you will go home with an assortment of cookies.
*If you are not a baker but would like to get some cookies, there will be a variety for sale.
