Today is International Day of Acceptance 💙

A day to fill our hearts with compassion, understanding, and acceptance.

We come together to honor the lived experiences of people with disabilities, not by focusing on limitations, but by recognizing strengths, individuality, and belonging!

True acceptance means creating spaces where everyone is valued, included, and supported exactly as they are.

Let’s continue choosing acceptance, not just today, but every day 💙

Maggie’s PT session last week was all about confidence, movement, and fun 🛹

She worked on her skateboarding skills and absolutely LOVED every second of it!

Moments like this reflect the goals Maggie’s parents shared when she first came to Breakthrough such as building her confidence, increasing independence, strengthening her balance and core, and giving her more opportunities to participate in activities alongside her peers.

She closed out her session with some twin sister love 💚

Ellie joined Maggie for a little dance party!! They had the best time!

We’re so proud of Maggie and the confidence she continues to build, one ride (and dance move) at a time 💚

Step inside Emily’s session with us this week! 💙

Here is what she worked on:

Treadmill ambulation with ankle weights ➡️ building endurance, strengthening muscles, and improving proprioception (aka knowing where her feet are in space for better control)

Overground ambulation ➡️ improving motor planning and balance for more independent walking, with just enough challenge to strengthen reactions safely

Hamstring curls ➡️ warming up muscles to support better control and alignment in standing and walking

Split squats ➡️building strength for floor-to-stand transfers and practicing different movements with each leg to break up tone

Emily brought the heat! 🔥💪

Jackson’s parents, Tonya & James, shared a glimpse into their son Jackson’s journey here at Breakthrough 💙

Jackson started coming to BT in 2022, and since then, his hard work (and infectious smile) have led to some incredible progress.

Jackson can now:

➡️Stand and walk with less assistance

➡️Take a more active role in everyday moments with his family and friends

➡️Move with greater ease thanks to improved hip strength and stability

➡️Take steady steps in his walker without crossing his feet

➡️Sit more comfortably and confidently with improved postural control

Jackson has gained so much strength and confidence since he first joined our BT family!

We’re so proud of him and grateful to be part of his journey. 💙

When Julianna first started coming to Breakthrough last May, one of her parents’ biggest hopes was for her to feel more confident in herself and to walk with greater independence.

Seeing her now…walking tall, supported by the bungees, and carrying herself with so much confidence is such a powerful reminder of how far she’s come.

We are so incredibly proud of Julianna, she is truly unstoppable and has only just gotten started. 💙
