We are now accepting applications for this year’s Young Adult Backpacking Trip, for 19-25 year olds who have had someone important to them die. There is no cost to participate and all gear is provided! www.wildgrief.org/young-adult-programs

Our Backpacking Trips are about engaging with grief, moment-to-moment, with peers who have also experienced a significant loss. The simple acts that take place during a multi-day trek—walking beneath the trees, pitching a tent, feeling the weather change all have a way of grounding us. In the wild, we have permission to grieve however we need to grieve. Apply as soon as you can- trips fill up fast!

This was an extremely important realization during my healing journey. I wanted to make space for forgiveness, empathy, and repair in my own relationship, but found it extremely hard to get past anger and grief.

Allowing myself to say- ‘It’s okay to acknowledge your parents did the best they could and realize- at the same time- it was still traumatic for you’ really helped me. Separating those two thoughts has allowed me to process them differently, yet accepting that those can coexist.

Repeat for yourself, ‘It’s okay to acknowledge __________ did the best they could and realize- at the same time- it was still traumatic for me.’
