Iโve been grieving yesterdayโs news and want to take a moment to express my heartโs cryโฆ
Remembering What It Means to Be Human
We are one breath,
split into ten thousand lungs,
forgetting the rhythm that began
before stars had names.
We wound each other
as if there were an other,
as if blood knew borders,
as if sorrow spoke in separate tongues.
In truth,
your tears salt the same ocean as mine,
your laughter rises on the wind
that bends the grass where I kneel to pray.
Why do we sharpen lines
that carve the world into us and them?
Why do we raise walls
against the very skin we share?
Remember:
the universe is a single body,
galaxies are cells,
human hearts are atoms
spinning with the same light.
To be humane is to see
that the wound of your neighbor
is the wound in your own side,
that compassion is not virtueโ
it is vision.
Let us stand again in that seeing.
Let us fall into the river of wholeness,
where fear dissolves into recognition,
and cruelty has no root.
From this height,
from this depth,
from this circle with no edgeโ
there is only love,
broken and re-membering itself.
Come home.
Come home to the we that is I,
to the I that is we,
to the silence that has always sung:
We were never separate. We were never alone.
