If the child is under the maximum weight and height, but has less than 1” above its head, the child has outgrown the car seat. The feet hanging off the edge? NBD!

Many infant seats allow for installation without a base. Some infant seats are sold without a base. A car seat base may add to the convenience of your installation, but it isn't there to make your car seat safer. If your car seat manual has instructions for installation without the base, it is absolutely safe to install your seat this way.

Child Passenger Safety

The National Child Passenger Safety Board works to keep kids safe in all forms of transportation. To that end, the board maintains a standardized curriculum used to train child passenger safety technicians and instructors. In addition, the board regularly communicates safety trends and safety tips with parents and caregivers through social media channels.
