Dizziness is a common complaint in teenagers and can have several causes. In many cases, it may be related to dehydration, skipped meals, lack of sleep, or rapid growth during adolescence.

Standing up quickly can also cause brief lightheadedness due to temporary changes in blood pressure.

Encouraging regular meals, staying well hydrated, getting adequate sleep, and standing up slowly can often help reduce mild symptoms.

However, certain symptoms should be evaluated. Dizziness associated with fainting, chest pain, severe headaches, shortness of breath, or symptoms that interfere with daily activities should be discussed with a healthcare provider.

If your teen frequently experiences dizziness or if symptoms are worsening, contact WellBeing Pediatrics to schedule an evaluation.

Family and social history are important parts of your child’s medical record.

Information about family health conditions, living situations, school environments, and lifestyle factors helps providers better understand the full picture of a child’s health.

These details can guide screening recommendations, help identify potential health risks, and support decisions about prevention and treatment.

For example, family history may influence screening for certain conditions, while social history can help providers understand factors that affect safety, stress, or access to resources.

Keeping this information updated helps ensure your child’s care plan reflects their current needs. If there have been changes in family health history, living situations, or other important factors, please share those updates with a member of our team at your child’s next visit.

April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to recognize and support individuals on the autism spectrum and promote understanding and inclusion in our communities.

Autism is a developmental condition that can affect communication, social interaction, and behavior, and every child’s strengths and challenges are unique.

Early support and services can make a meaningful difference for many children and families. Resources such as Autism Speaks and the Autism Society provide educational materials, support networks, and guidance for navigating therapies and services. Local early intervention programs and school-based services can also play an important role in supporting development.

If you have questions about developmental concerns or autism resources, speak with your child’s provider at WellBeing Pediatrics to learn about services and support available in your area.

Vitamin D is essential for healthy bone growth and development.

Most breastfed babies need 400 IU of vitamin D per day, since breast milk alone doesn’t provide enough. This is usually given as daily vitamin D drops directly to the baby.

Another option some families choose is maternal supplementation when a breastfeeding parent takes a higher daily dose of vitamin D (often around 6,400 IU/day), enough vitamin D can pass through breast milk to meet the baby’s needs. This approach should only be done with guidance from your provider to ensure safety and proper dosing.

Because dosing matters, families should not start vitamin D supplements, either for baby or parent, without clear instructions from their care team.

Questions about vitamin D drops or maternal supplementation? Ask us at your newborn visit or or call one of our phone nurses.

Around six months, babies are becoming more active, curious, and expressive. You may notice new movements and sounds emerging as your baby continues to grow and explore.

Every baby develops at their own pace, but here are common milestones many parents see around this age:

What many 6-month-olds are doing:
- Rolling both directions (tummy to back and back to tummy)
- Reaching for and grasping objects, often bringing them to their mouth
- Sitting with support or briefly sitting independently
- Babbling with sounds like “ba,” “da,” or “ma”
- Responding to their name and enjoying social interaction
- Showing curiosity about people and surroundings

Remember, milestone timelines can vary, and development is not a race.

Your baby’s six-month visit is a great time to talk through milestones and any questions you have so bring your observations, and we’ll review them together. Need to schedule a wellness visit? Call our office today to schedule.

Difficulty focusing doesn’t automatically mean ADHD.

Many factors can affect attention in teens, including poor sleep, stress, anxiety, depression, heavy screen use, learning differences, or substance use.

ADHD is typically characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity that interfere with school, relationships, or daily functioning, and symptoms are usually present for years, not just a few weeks.

An evaluation may be helpful when focus problems are ongoing, affecting grades, causing frustration, or impacting home life. Proper assessment includes input from parents, teachers, and the teen, not online quizzes or quick assumptions.

If you have concerns regarding your child’s attention or behaviors, schedule an appointment for a full evaluation with one of our pediatric trained providers.

Did you know we can help with more than just your child’s physical health?

Our team is trained to also offer care for mental health concerns.

Mental health is part of overall health. Conversations about anxiety, mood changes, attention concerns, behavior challenges, or stress can start right here in the pediatric office.

We use validated screening tools, gather input from families and schools when needed, and help determine next steps. That may include counseling referrals, school accommodations, lifestyle strategies, or medication management when appropriate.
Early discussion often prevents concerns from becoming more disruptive over time.

Schedule a visit to talk through concerns about mood, anxiety, or behavior. Starting the conversation is the first step.

Today we celebrate and honor individuals with Down syndrome and the families who support them.

Children with Down syndrome thrive when they receive consistent healthcare. Annual wellness visits are especially important to monitor growth and development, review hearing and vision, screen for thyroid and cardiac concerns, support learning and behavior, and coordinate recommended labs and referrals. Regular visits allow us to partner closely with families, anticipate needs, and adjust care plans as children grow.

World Down Syndrome Day is a great reminder to stay up to date on wellness visits. Reach out to schedule your child’s annual checkup or message us through the portal. Our staff at WellBeing Pediatrics cannot wait to see you and your family.

Spring is a great time to refresh more than just our homes. It’s also a chance to check in on mental and emotional well-being.

Clearing mental clutter can be as simple as setting realistic expectations, taking breaks from constant notifications, spending time outdoors, or having regular check-ins about stress with your kids and teens.

Small boundaries like device-free meals or consistent bedtime routines can help both parents and kids feel more grounded.

If stress, worry, or mood changes are lingering or starting to affect daily life, reach out to our office or message us through the portal. We are here to support you and your family.

Packing for the hospital doesn’t need to be overwhelming. A few thoughtful items can make a big difference during labor, delivery, and recovery.

Here are five must-haves many parents find helpful:

1) Comfortable clothes for mom (nursing-friendly or loose-fitting)

2) Toiletries you actually like such as face wash, lip balm, hair ties, or dad’s favorite toilet paper

3) Phone chargers (long cord!) for staying connected and capturing moments

4) Comfort items like a favorite pillow or blanket for mom or dad

5) Snacks and drinks for partners during long hours

Every birth is different, so focus on comfort and flexibility rather than overpacking.

What was the one item you were so glad you packed or wish you had? Share in the comments to help other parents prepare.

Questions about your toddler’s nap schedule?

Many toddlers continue to need naps, but nap patterns can change quickly during this stage. Most children 1–3 years old still benefit from one nap per day, usually lasting 1–3 hours. As toddlers grow, naps may shorten or become inconsistent.

Signs a child may be getting ready to drop a nap include taking a long time to fall asleep at bedtime, fighting naps regularly, or very late afternoon naps interfering with nighttime sleep. Even when naps shorten or disappear, quiet rest time such as reading, puzzles, or calm play still helps toddlers reset and prevents over-tiredness.

If you have questions about your toddler’s nap schedule, reach out today to talk with one of our providers.
