Awareness… and we can help change for the better. I myself can’t even get Social Security because both of my parents work I will be able to apply when I’m 18 my parents could use that money to help pay for my durable medical equipment or my power wheelchair. My biological father died and my biological siblings get Social Security because they were adopted by family members that are biological or still live with their mother because they receive Social Security, I cannot as I was adopted by my parents who are not biologically related to me. - the red tape is stupid, but I’m very thankful that my parents work many jobs and work very hard to give me as much as I do have.
I am an expensive kid I keep thinking things will be OK when I’m an adult but then I see videos like this, I’m scared.
most other kids, my age are out playing football or baseball. I’ve chosen awareness and advocacy work as my sport. And the rest of my free time is spent practicing being an adult because there are so many obstacles. I have to overcome, but it just doesn’t magically happen when I turn 18 . this video demonstrates some of the obstacles.
I know my parents have to have a nest egg of way over $2000 for when I stay in the hospital because they have to make up for their income that’s lost if they don’t have sick time they also have to pay a babysitter to watch the Littles so that my mom can stay with me at the hospital, and of course the extra things that come up like having to purchase a hospital bed or other need a durable equipment for whatever reason I’m in the hospital for. so I have an adult and I’m disabled and I get maybe $800 a month in Social Security to live on and I get sick and I can’t work my 20 hours I’m allowed to work how am I supposed to pay my bills if I can’t have more than $2000 saved? insurance doesn’t cover the durable medical equipment that we need just said example my power chair was $38,000 that’s not pocket money ….that’s a loan.
so if you have a minute, please watch this video and fill out the thing — because together we can make a difference for many people in our country. The only cost you is a little bit a time.
