Tonight our very own Hashanda was honored with an incredible, well deserved award. The 2025 Leslyn McBean-Clairborne Strength in Diversity Award!

The Leslyn McBean-Clairborne Strength in Diversity Award, given by the Tompkins County Legislature, honors individuals or organizations that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to the pursuit of cultural diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, as well as outstanding achievements in advocacy of basic civil and human rights in Tompkins County. The award is named after Dr. Leslyn McBean-Clairborne, who has enhanced diversity and equity in Tompkins County in countless ways, including by establishing the county’s Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Committee and spearheading numerous other justice initiatives during her 20-year tenure as a Tompkins County legislator. We are so proud of you Hashanda Johnson and we are bottomlessly honored to work alongside our community partners, doing the work we love.

A day late but never missed. Happy Birthday to the Sagittarius Queen. Down for whatever, rolls with the punches and helps EVERYONE in her path. On and off the clock. Hashanda comes from a strong woman, she is a strong woman, and she’s raising a strong woman. We all need more of what she’s giving. Behind the scenes, she keeps our services not only running but growing, always pushing our mission forward. She navigates the toughest parts of this work with humor, transparency, grace, and warmth — all while her feet stay firmly planted in the belief that healthcare with dignity is truly a human right.

Our Story

The REACH Project, Inc. (REACH) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 by Dr. Justine Waldman. Dr. Waldman’s vision was to create a nonprofit organization that could serve as the foundation for expanding access to services for people who use drugs, and others who may face stigma due to their individual circumstances such as homelessness, poverty or other issues that tend to cause less than adequate care in today’s healthcare environment. REACH stands for Respectful, Equitable Access to Compassionate Healthcare.

REACH owns and operates a low threshold, harm reduction medical practice known as REACH Medical. Patients can receive opioid replacement therapy, primary care services, Hep C treatment, PrEP and many other services.
