We would like to take a moment to thank our first responders for a job well done this afternoon during the response to a head-on collision involving a school bus and a pickup truck.

Three Bangs ambulance rigs and a fly car responded quickly, and we were assisted by numerous other agencies who worked together seamlessly to ensure everyone involved received prompt care and support.

We would like to specifically thank the Newfield Fire Co. and Newfield Central School for their exceptional and quick responses. Their actions were instrumental in helping a chaotic scene be neutralized promptly and safely.

Thankfully, no one sustained severe injuries, and that outcome is a direct result of the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication shown on scene.

We are incredibly grateful to all agencies and personnel who responded and helped bring this incident to a safe conclusion. Your commitment to our community does not go unnoticed.

Big thanks to Ithaca Fire Department for letting us use their training center yesterday, and 901 for sticking around to run through scenarios with our group! We’re always grateful for the relationship and collaboration with them to continue supporting EMS for our community.

Our new hire class got hands-on experience with stair chair operations and extrication techniques — a great start to their journey with us.

We are so very proud of Susan Flynn who was presented with the Tim Bangs Lifetime Achievement Award and Nick Domster as one of the ALS providers of the year. We were able to sit down with almost all the crews on in the middle of another busy day to celebrate Susan Flynn’s 35 anniversary at Bangs! Susan has been vital in serving this community and keeps us all in line and on our toes.

During a routine interfacility medical transport on Monday afternoon a Bangs Ambulance was involved in a motor vehicle crash. While traveling on State Route 17 in Broome County our ambulance was struck from behind by a commercial vehicle. The driver and the provider in the back of the ambulance sustained non life threatening injuries while the patient who was secured to the ambulance stretcher was not injured. The crew was able to contact Broome County 911 and 3 ambulances and a supervisor were dispatched from Union Ambulance. The patient being transported was evaluated and then transported to the facility they were originally being transferred to. The crew was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. They were treated and released several hours after the crash. A Bangs Supervisor was dispatched to the scene and worked with the NYSP and a local towing company to return the damaged ambulance to Ithaca and then met the crew at the hospital and drove them home after their release. A NYSP Commercial Vehicle Inspector was at the scene and ticketed the driver of the commercial vehicle that had struck the ambulance. The driver of the truck was not injured and refused transport for evaluation. Bangs Ambulance is grateful to Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. for their rapid response, evaluation and transport of all three people involved in this incident
