Some kids with ADHD struggle to sleep because their MAO‑A +/+ gene variant can cause the brain to break down serotonin too quickly.

Serotonin is needed to make melatonin, the hormone that signals sleep. When this pathway is off, it can lead to racing thoughts, wired nights, and insomnia—even when kids are exhausted.

With DNA testing, we can see this pattern and support it in a personalized way, often helping kids fall asleep faster and stay asleep without trial‑and‑error.

šŸ©ŗšŸ‘©ā€āš•ļøI’m a nurse practitioner with a certificate in functional medicine for ADHD, and I help families understand why their child struggles and how to support them based on their genetics.

He used to wake up with that pit in his stomach when the alarm went off—the kind where you’re not sure you can even get out of bed.

Even Adderall couldn’t fix it.

I’m a nurse practitioner with functional medicine certification in ADHD and advanced training in genetics, so we didn’t guess—we tested.

What we found:
🧬 Multiple gene mutations
⚔ Mineral imbalances
ā˜£ļø Heavy metal burden

The result?
Personalized supplements designed to support his DNA and bypass gene weaknesses. That’s the power of nutrigenomics.

Why Facebook groups don’t get the same results as my 3‑step DNA method for ADHD 🧠🧬

Most advice focuses on one gene or one supplement. That’s not how biology works.

My approach looks at the full picture ā¬‡ļø
🧬 The 30 DNA methylation genes that influence how the other ~25,000 genes behave
⚔ Minerals your genes need to function properly (nutrigenomics), since some genes increase demand for certain minerals
🧪 Urine amino acids, because some gene patterns cause you to lose the building blocks needed to make ADHD‑related neurotransmitters
🦠 Gut issues that can develop over time from specific gene patterns, including leaky gut

When I combine this information, I can see what’s happening at a cellular level.

One gene does not equal one supplement. There is no magic fix. That’s why I can’t give one‑size‑fits‑all advice—even for free.

I do have a free resource that breaks down the top 5 genes I most commonly see influencing ADHD.

When I see the CBS C699T +/+ gene, I always evaluate minerals and urine amino acids to understand how well the body is meeting increased biochemical demands šŸ”¬

This is exactly what I do inside my 3‑Step DNA Method for ADHD, where I assess CBS alongside 29 other clinically relevant genes to create a truly personalized plan 🧠

I’m a nurse practitioner trained in functional medicine, ADHD, and genetics—and this is why supplements aren’t one-size-fits-all.

Nutrigenomics explains how your DNA responds to nutrition and supplements. What works for one person may not work for another, leading to wasted money and frustration.

In my book, I break this down with a simple quiz and DNA-informed supplement guidance so you can stop guessing and start personalizing your health.

Here’s why omega‑3s didn’t move the dial for his ADHD without medication.

He has several gene variants, including MTHFR A1298C +/+ and MAO‑A +/+.

Some protocols use DHA and phosphatidylcholine to indirectly support methylation and choline demand, but he does not have BHMT variants where those supports are a priority.

In his case, omega‑3s support general health and a balanced diet — they’re just not a top‑tier intervention for his primary genetic drivers.

Personalized care matters. Supplements should match the genes driving the symptoms.

I’m a nurse practitioner with a functional medicine certification in ADHD and training in genetics.

MTHFR doesn’t mean everyone needs to take methylfolate. It depends on the specific variant and how your pathways are actually functioning.

This is exactly what I test for in my 3‑step DNA method for ADHD, so supplements are personalized instead of guessed.

You’re not bad at consistency.
You’re not broken.
And you’re not imagining that nothing worked.

Most ADHD advice ignores how your body actually processes nutrients.

Genetics and methylation decide whether a supplement helps, does nothing, or makes symptoms worse.

I’m a nurse practitioner with functional medicine and genetics training, and this is exactly why I wrote this book — to replace guessing with biology.

If you’ve tried everything and still feel stuck, this is the piece no one explained.

More isn’t better if your body can’t use it.

Nutrigenomics explains why the same supplement helps one person and makes another anxious, foggy, or exhausted.

Inside this book, I teach how methylation cycles influence focus, mood, and energy — and how to support them safely, without chasing trends.

If you’re tired of trial‑and‑error ADHD care, this will feel like clarity.

I’m a nurse practitioner certified in functional medicine in ADHD.

I’m a nurse practitioner certified in functional medicine for ADHD.

With a NOS D298C +/+ variant, nitric oxide production can be lower. Nitric oxide supports blood flow, mitochondrial signaling, and nitrogen balance. When this pathway is less efficient, overnight metabolic byproducts like ammonia may feel harder to clear, showing up as morning brain fog or low drive.

ADHD meds increase neurotransmitter signaling, but they don’t address nitric oxide pathways.

That’s why some people notice:
- Slow, foggy mornings
- Heaviness on waking
- Energy improves later in the day

This isn’t anti‑medication.
It’s about understanding metabolic context.

Why the Adderall crash hits harder if you have a COMT V158M +/- or +/+ variant

I’m a nurse practitioner certified in functional medicine for ADHD.

COMT helps break down dopamine in the prefrontal cortex. With this variant, dopamine can rise higher while medication is active, but when it wears off, the drop can feel more abrupt. ADHD meds increase dopamine signaling, but they don’t change how your body clears it.

That’s why some people notice:
- Strong benefit, then a sharp crash
- Irritability or emotional drop‑off
- Brain fog as meds wear off

This isn’t anti‑medication.
It’s about understanding dopamine regulation.
