We have successfully graduated our first class of Internal Medicine Residents. The three inaugural graduates are Kaili Du MD, Sristee Niraula MBBS and Priyesh Thakurathi MBBS.
“You did it! You completed residency despite the many challenges on this journey: you were pioneers in a brand new program stumbling toward legitimacy, you were unfamiliar with this country and town, you were all neophytes to the US medical system, you had no senior peers to guide or help you, you withstood multiple transitions in faculty and leadership, you experienced endless scheduling, curricular and policy shifts in a growing and maturing program… and you have done most of it during a global pandemic.
Many residents, when faced with similar circumstances, might allow frustration or fear to eclipse their experience. However, you three have demonstrated unparalleled resilience. You have overcome hurdles and disappointment with grace; you have faced challenges with tenacity; you have carved out your career paths with resourcefulness.
I did not have the privilege of spending your first year with you, but I have had the honor of spending the last two watching you flourish as teachers, leaders, and clinicians.I have had the joy of witnessing your discovery of your own individual skills and talents. I have also been privy to some of your low moments, and I have watched you bounce back even stronger.
We are all grateful that you three are our first residents and our first graduates. You have taught us more than you know about empathy, integrity and resolve. You have pushed us to be better teachers, better doctors, and better people. We are so excited to see what you will accomplish in your careers, and we wish you the utmost happiness and fulfillment as you move forward.
Congratulations, Class of 2022!”
