I am deeply honored to be recognized as one of Mississippi’s Too Urban Elite Professionals. This acknowledgment is not only a personal milestone but also a reflection of the incredible community that has supported, inspired, and trusted me along the way. Being celebrated among so many talented and dedicated professionals reminds me of the power of perseverance, purpose, and community impact.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve, to uplift others, and to represent excellence within our great state. Thank you to the organizers, my family, colleagues, and everyone who continues to believe in the vision of creating positive change. This honor motivates me to keep pushing forward empowering others, breaking barriers, and leaving a lasting legacy of service and success.
The 50 Under Fifty: Mississippi's Top Urban Elite Professionals Awardee #12 is Dr. Latibbie Cavett, a native of Collins, MS. She is the Founder and CEO of A New You
Counseling and Consulting, LLC, and the Executive Director of Second Chances Outreach Services in Jackson, Mississippi. With more than 15 years of experience in social services and mental health, she has devoted her career to counseling, advocacy, and building programs that empower individuals, families, and communities.
Dr. Cavett was instrumental in establishing a Youth Court Program designed to support at-risk youth and dismantle the “school-to-prison” pipeline. She also served seven years as Program Director of Madison County Jobs4Youth in Canton, MS, where she created pathways for young people to succeed through education, mentorship, and workforce development.
As a mental health advocate, community activist, and sought-after speaker, Dr. Cavett has organized and participated in numerous local and national initiatives addressing mental health, substance abuse, juvenile justice, trauma recovery, human trafficking, homelessness, crisis intervention, and workforce empowerment. She has also coordinated charitable efforts such as back-to-school drives, homeless outreach, and direct support for children in group homes and survivors of human trafficking.
Dr. Cavett earned her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Rehabilitation Counseling from Jackson State University. She went on to complete her Education Specialist degree with an emphasis in Christian Counseling, as well as a Doctor of Professional Counseling from Mississippi College. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Mississippi.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Cavett is a proud mother of two children, Christian and Christianna. She enjoys traveling, reading, volunteering, and creating meaningful memories with her family. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Jackson MS Alumnae), as well as several professional and civic organizations, including Chi Sigma Iota, the American Counseling Association, the Mississippi Counseling Association, and the NAACP.
