Nobody comes to stay, we know, but this one made us 😢

Thank you for all you did while you were here!

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Michel Odent, whose vision and writing reshaped the way we understand human birth.

Michel Odent reminded us that birth is not a medical procedure to be controlled, but a primal rythm to be respected. He advocated for home-like maternity units, warm water births, protecting the birthing woman's privacy and honouring her instincts, undisturbed contact between mother and newborn; he was among the first to discuss the importance of the microbiome, and question many of the practices that had (and have) become normalised in overmedicalised maternity systems globally.

Michel Odent's legacy lives on in every dimmed, quiet birthing room, and in every midwife his words and work inspired to join our profession.

Thank you, Michel, for your passion, vision and committment to women and newborns.

What a year this has been! We had some lows and soared through the heights; and for ALL of it, we are forever grateful!

To everyone we shared space with, supported, held, laughed and cried with...
To all the mamas who trusted us to hold space during their most vulnerable times...
To all the babies that graciously allowed us to attend their birth day parties...
To all the family members who fed us; to all the dads/partners who carried the midwife's bags to and from the car, set up birth pools and broke them down, who caught babies and cut umbilical cords, and were the best support ever to their wives/partners...
To the best birth assistant ever, Nishatu, my ride or die...
To Mr Taweret Midwifery, aka hubby, aka Mac, for always being understanding of the quiet sacrifices midwives and their families make to show up for birthing families - THANK YOU for making 2024 a year to remember!

I’ve been so excited to be with my own mother again (after more than a year) that I forgot to remind y’all. We on vacay! 🎊🥂

We have one mama in December, our darling repeat client whose birthing day we can't wait to celebrate, then we'll be packing it up and heading to the Caribbean to celebrate our own mommy's birthday with sun, sea and sand! 🥳

This young sir ran a pretty fast race then took his own sweet time crossing the finish line. He eased his way out of his mother's protective body as if he was saying "slow and steady wins the race"; and when he slid out, his dad's were waiting to receive him.... sweet, darling little boy who likes what he likes and will yell at you if you don't comply. He'll let you know in a heartbeat, he didn't come to play games with anyone!

And his mother...
I met his mother earlier this year at one of our childbirth preparation workshops. My first impression was "I like her!" and as she drove away from the office I found myself wishing I could be at her birth...BUT it wasn't meant to be (she already had her provider on lock in another state and was very clear about her birth plan). So I said a silent prayer for her birth to be exactly what she wanted it to be and that was that.

Then July rolls around and, out of the blue, she contacts me. Change of plans, she was gonna welcome this little angel in MS instead, and could I be her midwife. By this time, I had plans to travel close to her birth window and didn't think the dates would line up...but... I liked her, y'all! I checked the dates and, as the Divine would have it, they matched perfectly! The day I returned was the day her birth window started!

I'm SO glad I got to see this already powerful woman evolve into an even more mighty version of herself. She's beauty and humor and balance and clarity and surrender all in one, all at once. She's firm about her peace of mind And when her birth time came she looked like the perfect blend of complete control and utter surrender. What an honor to witness the birth of a mother!

This mother brought quiet strength, inner knowing and power to her birthing space like it was the easiest thing to do. Her grace through the unfolding of her process was humbling and as I quietly read a book in the corner while she labored, I couldn't help but give thanks for being able to witness the beautiful birthing of a mother.

Now as for the little mister! He said "I want them to know just how special I am; I can't leave any room for doubt"... this darling soul decided to make his appearance on a special full moon and brought a whole storm with him no less! And you should have seen him, the most peaceful soul... just eased out of his mother into his father's waiting hands, wearing his umbilical cord like a chain. Yes, sweet pea, we know you're special... we've always known.💗

TAWERET MIDWIFERY will be closed today! Why?? Because it’s this special guy’s birthday and we’re celebrating him all day! Some of yall have seen him behind the scenes at our childbirth preparation workshops. He’s always behind the scenes supporting everything we do for . The husbands supporting their midwife wives are the absolute best! Giving thanks for mine all day, everyday 💗. Love you honey😘
