🫧❄️ Winter Learning Fun: Freeze Bubbles! ❄️🫧
With the freezing temps coming up, here’s a fun (and surprisingly simple) winter activity kids love. It’s fun to watch — and it also sneaks in some great speech and motor skill practice while you play.
👉 Freeze bubbles outside!
Blow bubbles and watch them slowly freeze and crystallize right in front of you. It’s pretty cool to see.
Bubble solution recipe:
• 1 cup warm water
• 3 tbsp dish soap
• 3 tbsp corn syrup
• 2 tbsp sugar
Let it cool to room temperature before using.
👉 Cookie cutters work really well here and are much easier to manage if it’s windy.
❄️ In very cold temps, bubbles usually freeze in about 20–30 seconds.
⸻
🗣️ Speech & language skills you can work on while you play:
• Talking about what you see (cold, freeze, melt, pop, bubble)
• Using simple core words (more, go, stop, wait, again)
• Expanding phrases like “It’s freezing!” or “The bubble popped!”
• Taking turns and making comments
• Following simple directions
✋ OT-inspired skills happening at the same time:
• Fine motor work (holding straws or cookie cutters)
• Hand-eye coordination
• Using both hands together
• Sensory exploration (especially noticing temperature)
• Slowing down and regulating through calm, outdoor play
💙 A bonus we love: this activity naturally encourages patience and observation, which can be really helpful for kids who benefit from a slower, more regulated pace.
❄️ Cold-weather reminder:
This activity works best on very cold days. Be sure kids are dressed appropriately, stay close by, and keep outdoor time short based on comfort and weather conditions. Short bursts are plenty!
Save this for this cold weekend! Learning and play don’t have to stop just because it’s winter 🫧✨
