Mary Joan "Jo" Kelley (Stark)

Our joy in her unification with Jesus is tinged with sorrow as we share news of the death of our beloved Mother Mary Joan "Jo" Stark Kelley on March 22, 2026 in Fort Meyers, Florida. Mary Jo entered the world on February 2, 1934, the third of eight children born to Martin and Beatrice Stark. Her birth coincided with the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus. She always told her children it was a double feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary Jo graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1952 (oh how she loved “good old St. Mary’s) and was still friends with classmates Rita Stark (also her sister in law), Margie Blair Adams and Jerry Terry. On October 26, 1957, she married her soulmate John T (“Keats”) Kelley at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church. They were married 16 years before his passing left her to mourn him for the next 52+ years. She missed him deeply every day and yearned to be reunited with him in heaven.

After our father’s death, Mom stepped into the role of running Dad’s business, Charlie’s Tavern in Albion. It was a challenging time, and we all leaned into each other as a family. We were supported by extended family, many friends and our Charlie’s Tavern family. In 1979 Mary Jo moved back to Jackson working at Photo Marketing Association until her retirement in 1999. The following ten years she served as President of St. Mary’s St. Vincent de Paul Society, dedicating untold hours to managing and distributing resources to those in need. She also volunteered to help adults with literacy challenges, as she told us children “It all starts with learning to read.”

The golden years of her retirement included travels to many countries; she loved seeing the glories of God’s creation. Researching genealogy was a passion. If she met a new acquaintance she would delve into their family history as well. In recent years she spent many hours completing jigsaw puzzles, watching Mass on EWTN, and praying four rosaries a day, all twenty mysteries, for her children, grandchildren, extended family, and a long list of those who needed prayer. She enjoyed lake life especially a pontoon boat ride. She loved music; a fond childhood memory for our entire family was the five Stark sisters harmonizing at family gatherings. Well known for her sense of fun and impish smile, she was the first to hit the dance floor, dragging her children along, often to their chagrin. Numerous people looked to her for emotional and spiritual support over the years. She had a tender heart for all types of people and their challenging circumstances.

She provided the most wonderful childhood to her four children and extended that loving care into our adulthood. Mary Jo is survived by her children, Kathleen Kelley Walsh (Robert), Jenny Kelley Nearnberg (David), Mary Beth Kelley Gorman (James), and Michael Kelley (Rachel); as well as grandchildren, Elizabeth Mangold (husband Keith, great grandchildren Jack and Mary), Christopher Walsh (Lydia) and Ian Michael Kelley. She is also survived by sister in law Rita Stark; brothers, James (Pam) Stark and Jerry (Sandy) Stark; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends and high school classmates, Margie Blair Adams and Jerry Terry and the Wednesday night gang at the Grotto Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. (Keats) Kelley; parents, Martin and Beatrice Stark; siblings, Durwood, Jacquelyn (Eugene) Fields, Janet (Michael) Griffin, Gertrude, Genevieve (Mickey); brother in law, William (Kate) Kelley; and nephew, Martin (Marty) Griffin.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM with Father Timothy Nelson officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16 from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:30 PM. The family will also receive friends at St. Mary’s Church on Friday, April 17 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

Contributions to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church or the St. Mary’s St. Vincent de Paul Society would be appreciated.

Patrick George Rollins

Patrick Rollins passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 in Jackson at the age of 88. Born in Adrian, Michigan on February 21, 1938, he is survived by his wife Carolyn (Rogowski) whom he loved unconditionally from the moment they met in Milwaukee in 1965.

Patrick was a proud Irishman who thoroughly enjoyed life, a good story, and personal friendships. The four most important things in his life were his faith, family, country, and of course, he was extremely proud of his Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1959. After graduation he served his country as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. As a businessman, he owned Rollins Guard Service for 32 years, providing industrial institutional security services in Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale Counties.

A devout Catholic, Pat’s faith was the cornerstone of his being and it guided him in every aspect of his life. Despite his many accomplishments, he would tell you that his life’s calling was to be the best husband, father, and grandfather he could be. And he only did it one way – loving his family.

In addition to Carolyn, Pat is survived by his four children, Beth (Mike) Orton, Pat (Deanna) Rollins, John (Krisztina) Rollins, and Katie (Mike) Jones; sister, Cathie Reel; grandchildren Maggie and Michael Orton, Connor and Ryan Rollins, Victoria Rollins, and Liam, Nolan, and Brendan Jones.

Go Irish!

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church, 1111 Carlton Blvd, Jackson, with Father Timothy MacDonald officiating.

Thomas John Treciak

Thomas John Treciak (born June 15, 1943, Jackson, Michigan — died March 20, 2026 Jackson, Michigan) lived in Jackson his entire life. A 1961 graduate of Jackson High School, he was an All State football player for the Vikings and captain of the track team. Tom was named for one of his father’s many brothers; his family immigrated from Eastern Europe at the turn of the century.

Predeceased by his parents, Virginia Eileen (Smith) Treciak and Stanley Walter Treciak; his brother James Stanley Treciak; his sister Jean Louise Treciak; his sister in law Carole Sue (Cox) Treciak and good friend Regina Dunn. He is survived by his nieces Kathleen VanDam (Edward) of Chicago, Suzanne Treciak, of Ann Arbor and Constance Greene (John) of Chicago, and by his great nieces Caroline Patricia VanDam and Kate Carole Greene, both of Chicago.

After high school he followed his older brother into civil service, taking a summer job at the U.S. Postal Service. Unlike his attorney brother, he remained a civil servant for his entire career. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam era and remained proud of his service.

In retirement he was a regular at the Jackson Harness Raceway and enjoyed weekly bets with friends and family. He shared a close relationship with his friend Regina and with his brother Jim, often swapping jokes and stories over a beer. A lover of history and geopolitics, he will be remembered as a loving uncle — a straightforward, tough character who never minced words.

“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother

Kathleen "Katie" Marie McLogan

Age 48, of Battle Creek, Michigan, was called home by God to eternal rest on March 12, 2026. She was born on May 28, 1977, in Coldwater, Michigan. Katie lived a life defined by resilience, compassion, faith, and a deep commitment to helping others.

Katie graduated from Jackson High School in 1995. She continued her education at Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 2003. Dedicated to serving others and advocating for those in need, she later pursued graduate studies and earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Spring Arbor University in 2024.

In her twenties, Katie faced a life-threatening brain tumor and underwent major surgery. Her recovery was something many called a miracle. That experience became part of the strength that defined her life and her desire to help others facing their own struggles. For many years after that, she was on disability due to her epilepsy, but determined to get back to school and accomplish her goals of becoming independent again, and getting out of low-income housing. In the meantime, she enjoyed volunteering for the Elara Home Health Care Service, Humane Society, tutoring elementary students in Spring Arbor, and being a greeter at the Arbor Church. Then in 2021, she had a life-changing brain surgery that allowed her the ability to get her driver's license, her Master’s Degree and return to full time work. For the past year, Katie worked as a social worker with Senior Care Partners (PACE), where she supported and advocated for older adults in her community. Those who worked with her knew her as a compassionate professional who brought empathy, intelligence, and dedication to the people she served.

Katie recently described herself as “a survivor, warrior, empath, advocate, sober friend, music lover, and cat mom.” These words beautifully captured the heart and spirit she carried throughout her life. She faced challenges with courage and used her experiences to uplift and support others. Her compassion made people feel heard, valued, and understood.

Those who knew Katie will also remember her wonderful sense of humor. Even after all she had been through, she had the ability to make others laugh and bring light into difficult moments. Her warmth, wit, and genuine kindness drew people to her.

She loved music, concerts, meaningful conversations, movies with friends, and the companionship of her beloved cats. Recently, she volunteered alongside her cousin Luke at Tim Tebow’s “Night to Shine” event at Southridge Church in Kalamazoo, reflecting her heart for service and her desire to bring joy to others.

Friends remember her as someone whose light shined brightly. A coworker shared that while they were just beginning to know Katie, it was clear she was a dedicated social worker whose compassion touched those around her.

Katie is survived by her parents, Tim McLogan and Sheila McLogan of Jackson, Michigan; and her brother, Kevin McLogan of Florida. She is also survived by extended family members, friends, coworkers, and many whose lives were made brighter by her presence.

Katie's body has been cremated. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 10:30 AM with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the life of a woman who lived with courage, empathy, faith, and heart.

Katie’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and courage. Though her time here was far too short, the light she brought into the world will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the many lives she touched.

Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord. Matthew 25:23
