Always learning to provide the best support possible for women in Mississippi 💙

Janice Scaggs, CNM, and two of our registered nurses with the UMMC Nurse-Midwifery Clinic recently attended the 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, thanks to scholarships from the Mississippi Public Health Institute.

This training equipped them with tools to better identify, support, and connect patients experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders to the resources they need. From screening and intervention strategies to compassionate communication techniques, they’re bringing back valuable knowledge to strengthen our care for mothers during one of the most vulnerable and important times in their lives.

Each year, nearly 100,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer, which includes cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. Awareness, early detection, and timely treatment can save lives.
