When Wade Watts got the call that a donor liver was available, he and his wife rushed to the hospital filled with hope.

That evening, Wade underwent a life-saving liver transplant performed by Christopher Anderson, chair of the Department of Surgery.

During the surgery, UMMC’s electronic systems went down, but the transplant team, SICU nurses, pharmacists, and staff never missed a beat, quickly shifting to downtime procedures to ensure Wade continued receiving the care he needed.

Six days later, Wade was home with his family and a second chance at life. 💙 University Transplant at University of Mississippi Medical Center

Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t wrapped, it’s a second chance at life.

After eight years of dialysis, Keith Preston received a kidney from his brother at UMMC. We’re honored to be part of stories like this. 💙

In a week that’s tested us, our people have continued to show up for Mississippi.

While clinics remain closed and elective procedures are paused, our hospitals and emergency departments in Jackson, Grenada, Madison County, and Holmes County are open. Behind the scenes, our residents, faculty, nurses, and staff are working long hours, answering triage calls, prioritizing urgent needs, and doing everything they can to care for our patients.

We’re grateful for your patience and trust as we work to safely restore full operations. It means more than you know. 💙

For urgent needs, call the UMMC Triage Line at 601-815-0000. For emergencies, call 911.
