We’re excited to introduce a new multidisciplinary Jaw Clinic at the Stephanie & Mitchell Morris Center for Cleft and Craniofacial Research and Innovation.

Our teams in Plastic Surgery, OMFS, Orthodontics, and Pediatric Dentistry are working together to care for patients with cleft lip and palate, and other craniofacial and jaw-related diagnoses.

At this important step, when decisions about jaw surgery are being made, patients can complete imaging, exams, and consultations all in one visit to create a clear plan forward.

Our goal is simple: make this process easier, more connected, and less overwhelming for patients and their families.

Shoutout to Amy N. Parker, MSN, APRN, RN, Clinical Outcomes Coordinator, who presented at the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) Annual Conference in San Diego.

Her poster, “Thrombosis Prevention in Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease: A Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement Initiative,” highlighted the power of collaboration in improving patient care.

With over 700 attendees, 385 abstracts submitted, and only 96 selected for poster presentations, this recognition speaks volumes.

We’re proud to support and celebrate this work being shared on a national stage!

When Wade Watts got the call that a donor liver was available, he and his wife rushed to the hospital filled with hope.

That evening, Wade underwent a life-saving liver transplant performed by Christopher Anderson, chair of the Department of Surgery.

During the surgery, UMMC’s electronic systems went down, but the transplant team, SICU nurses, pharmacists, and staff never missed a beat, quickly shifting to downtime procedures to ensure Wade continued receiving the care he needed.

Six days later, Wade was home with his family and a second chance at life. 💙 University Transplant at University of Mississippi Medical Center

Our Plastic Surgery residents spent time in the microsurgery lab practicing how to connect tiny vessels under a microscope. Using an anastomosis training kit, they build the coordination and instrument control needed for microsurgical procedures.
