Help us welcome Dr. Rennette Zavala to our Trauma and Acute Care Surgery team!
A Miami native, Dr. Zavala completed general surgery training at UF Jacksonville followed by a trauma/critical care fellowship at Spartanburg Regional.

When she’s not in the hospital, she enjoys baking, traveling, and cheering on her favorite football team and is excited to adopt a dog once she’s settled here in Mississippi. She also speaks Spanish as her first language.

We are excited to have her here at UMMC! 💙

Dr. Rod Rocconi, Director of the UMMC Cancer Center & Research Institute and gynecologic oncologist (right), joined Transplant Surgery’s Drs. Chris Anderson (middle) and Mark Earl (left) for a collaborative OUTREACH visit. Dr. Rocconi has a monthly satellite clinic in Oxford and enjoyed tag-teaming the outreach CONNECTION with longtime physician friends at an Oxford practice while expanding awareness of UMMC’s transplant and cancer care!

Our Pediatric Surgery team traded their scrubs for Hogwarts robes to bring a little magic to Children’s of Mississippi this Halloween! 🎃💙

This morning, we welcomed visiting professor Dr. Maryann Mbaka, trauma surgeon at USA Health University Hospital, for Grand Rounds.
Dr. Mbaka shared her insights on developing and incorporating the robotic platform in acute care surgery, an exciting look at innovation shaping the future of trauma and critical care. USA Health
