🎉Starting in 2026, Children’s of Mississippi will launch a monthly pediatric general surgery clinic in Tupelo, led by Dr. Michael Morris. Families will have access to expert pre- and post-operative care closer to home! Another way COM is bringing specialized children’s health services to communities across Mississippi!🌈

Our UMMC Plastic Surgery team is representing Mississippi on the international stage!

Drs. Hoppe, Elver, Fernstrum, and Lebhar traveled to Shanghai for ISCFS 2025, joining craniofacial surgeons and researchers from around the world. They spent the week sharing ideas, learning from global experts, and highlighting the innovative work happening here at UMMC.

We’re grateful for their leadership and proud to have them carrying our mission across borders.

Dr. Jacob Moremen and our team at the Esophageal Health & Reflux Center perform G-POEM, a minimally invasive procedure used for patients whose gastroparesis hasn’t improved with medication or lifestyle changes.

G-POEM (Gastric Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy) allows surgeons to release the tight pyloric muscle from the inside, helping the stomach empty more effectively. Our thoracic surgeons are also involved in national research studying outcomes and innovations in this technique, with encouraging results.
