🌩️If you’ve ever noticed that your joints feel stiffer or old injuries start talking to you right before a storm rolls in, you’re not imagining it.

☔️Many people notice increased aches and stiffness when the weather changes—particularly when barometric pressure drops, which often happens before rain or snow. While research is still evolving, both science and clinical experience suggest there are real physiological reasons behind this phenomenon.

☁️Barometric pressure is the weight of the air pressing down on our bodies. When a storm system moves in, the atmospheric pressure drops.
This decrease in pressure means there is less external force compressing the tissues in your body.

💪Your joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons all contain fluid and connective tissue. When atmospheric pressure drops, those tissues may expand slightly, which can increase pressure inside joints and surrounding structures.

⚕️For people with:
• Arthritis
• Old injuries
• Scar tissue
• Chronic inflammation
• Joint instability

this small change can be enough to stimulate sensitive nerve endings, creating feelings of stiffness, aching, or pressure.

Think of it a bit like a sponge that subtly swells when the pressure around it changes.

Areas that have previously been injured often have:
• altered tissue density
• scar tissue
• changes in circulation
• increased nerve sensitivity

Because of this, they can respond more dramatically to environmental changes than healthy tissue.

🦴This is why someone might say their knee, shoulder, or low back “knows when a storm is coming.”

🌬️Barometric pressure isn’t the only factor. Weather changes often come with:

• Increased humidity
• Temperature drops
• Reduced activity levels
• Muscle guarding due to cold

All of these can contribute to increased stiffness and discomfort.

💆‍♀️While we can’t control the weather, we can support our tissues when these changes occur.

Many clients find relief through:
• Targeted massage therapy to reduce muscle guarding and improve circulation
• Gentle movement and mobility work to keep joints lubricated
• Topical anti-inflammatory botanicals such as arnica or magnesium (Cryoderm!)
• Staying warm & hydrated

🚰When tissues move well and circulation is strong, the body often adapts better to environmental changes.

✨Weather-related aches are common, especially for people with prior injuries or joint sensitivity including connective tissue disorders. While the exact mechanisms are still being studied, barometric pressure shifts can influence how tissues& nerves behave.

🙂If you find your body reacting to changing weather, it may simply be your nervous system responding to subtle shifts in the environment. Supporting your body with movement, circulation, and appropriate bodywork can make those transitions much easier.

We’re often asked about gratuity.

While gratuities are always appreciated, they’re not required in our practice. We intentionally price our services (& compensation) so our team earns a fair, professional wage — because great care shouldn’t depend on tips. We also get referrals from medical professionals, so whether to tip or not can easily become a confusing “grey area”.

If you’d like to leave one, it’s a kind bonus that is greatly appreciated. If not, simply showing up and prioritizing your health is more than enough. You can let us know how we helped with a review or testimonial.

⚕️Good bodywork doesn’t stop when you leave the table. In fact, self-care is the most important part of improving function and mitigating, pain & stress. An effective topical can make a big difference in managing chronic & acute pain, neuropathies & post-workout soreness.

🧊CryoDerm Cooling Gel helps calm inflammation and soreness between sessions so your progress doesn’t reset every week. It absorbs quickly, isn’t greasy, and actually supports recovery — not just temporary sensation.

It’s one of the few products I recommend because it truly complements bodywork and is a high quality, high potency product.

✨CryoDerm Cooling Gel combines:
• menthol for fast cooling comfort & pain gate control
• MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)to support muscle and connective tissue recovery accelerate recovery by lowering oxidative stress and inflammation
•Boswellia aka Frankincense to help calm inflammation
•Arnica, another anti-inflammatory botanical
•Ilex, a botanical that helps loosen stiff or tight joints, likely by improving local circulation and reducing tissue tension. This can make areas feel less stiff and more able to move with less discomfort.

🌱Powerful botanicals working synergistically to help interrupt the pain spasm ischemia cycle.

🙂I use it during treatment to help irritated tissue settle so we can work more effectively — and so your results last longer after you leave the table.

🖖Simple. Effective. Supportive care between sessions. Now available in the studio

💪 While there’s still a lot of unknowns as to the mechanisms at play, this research supports the notion that “mechanotherapies” aren’t just a “feel good” experience.

By Lindsay Brownell (BOSTON) — Massage has been used to treat sore, injured muscles for more than 3,000 years, and today many athletes swear by massage guns to rehabilitate their bodies. But other than making people feel good, do these “mechanotherapies” actually improve healing after severe i...

Bio

I have practiced massage therapy for 12 years in a variety of health & wellness settings from Detroit to Ann Arbor, and now Jackson, and have experience working with children, elderly population, professional athletes, clients with complex trauma & more.

My training is in orthopedic massage for injury rehabilitation, chronic pain syndromes and repetetive/occupational injuries. Through my experience with working at a Naturopathic clinic in Ann Arbor, I possess a working knowledge of many holistic modalities and a complete approach to bodywork.

I use a variety of bodywork techniques (both western & eastern approaches) to promote muscular balance, counter act the stress response and promote a healthy balanced lifestyle. I use zero artificial fragrances and am extra mindful of clients with chemical sensitivities from laundry products to topical products.

I see clients 7 days a week to help you fit self care into your busy schedule. I look forward to working with you to achieve chronic pain relief and promote over all health via the power of parasympathetic response.
