🧬 Happy Genetic Counselor Appreciation Day! 🧬

Today we celebrate Genetic Counselor Appreciation Day — a day dedicated to recognizing the compassion, leadership, and expertise of genetic counselors everywhere. With only about 5,000 genetic counselors in the United States, their work is truly invaluable.

Here at UMMC, we’re proud to recognize our outstanding genetic counselors, Laura Hendon and Zaria Neal — the only prenatal genetic counselors in the entire state of Mississippi! UMMC is also the only institution in the state that employs genetic counselors, making their contributions to patient care even more significant.

Laura and Zaria recently represented UMMC at the National Society of Genetic Counselors’ 44th Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington. Zaria participated in a minority outreach project, while Laura served as a featured panelist discussing single-gene NIPT issues.

Join us in celebrating Laura and Zaria for their dedication, compassion, and expertise — and for making a difference in the lives of families across Mississippi every day! 💚
