National Haiku Day is a time to celebrate your creativity … in 17 syllables. Celebrating the traditional Japanese poem with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second and five syllables in the third, haikus often celebrate nature. We’ve created an MBHRC haiku to celebrate National Haiku Day. What’s your best 5-7-5?

There are more than 100,000 people in the U.S. waiting on organ transplants, and another person is added to the list every 8 minutes. For burn patients, donations of blood, skin, amniotic membrane and other tissue can change the course of their healing process.

On National Donate Life Blue & Green Day, are you planning to be an organ donor? If not, make the decision today! Your organ donation could save up to 8 lives. Your cornea donation could help 2 people. And your tissue donation could help 75 people. One person, 85 lives affected. Visit Donate Life America to learn more!

One in seven children in America will likely face child abuse in their lives. Of those, about 10 percent will be from a burn injury. One of the most important parts of our mission is protecting the most vulnerable. This week is National Blue Ribbon Week (and this month is National Child Abuse Prevention Month), and we want to spotlight caring for those who may face physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. This month, and especially this week, wear blue to show your support of preventing child abuse in our communities.

Every day, they run toward tragedy and danger, not away from dangerous situations. While first responders are committed to taking care of our health and safety, they need to pause and prioritize their well-being, too. During First Responder Wellness Week, they should rest, reset, and reach out. Strength isn’t just physical — it’s knowing when to care for yourself.

Here are some resources for any of our first responder partners in need:
• Text BADGE to 741-741
• Call Safe Call Now: (206) 459-3020
• Call the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline: 988
• Call CopLine: 800-267-5463
• Visit 1sthelp.org
• Join the Firefighter Support Group, every second and fourth Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room C near the Busey Auditorium at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.

This week, we simply say “thank you.” Please join us in offering a kind word or a shoulder (or ear) of support to help make a difference.

For some, the first day of spring is a time to celebrate new beginnings. For others, it’s a time to clean things up. If you are embarking on spring cleaning, makes sure you are being extra careful if you are burning yard debris and are wearing proper safety equipment if you are using cleaning chemicals. This will help make sure you start spring in a safe situation! 🌷
