There is a lot to like about the basketball game of Lumen Christi Catholic High School star Kenna Hunt.
She could average 30-plus points per game and take 20 โ 25 shots per game but she is team driven.
With just under four minutes to go in a lopsided game last week Hunt was at the bottom of a pile diving for a loose basketball.
And defense has become a passion for the LCCHS sophomore โ not necessarily scoring.
Hunt is leading the Titans to success in 2025-2026 after having won the Catholic High School League basketball title. She looking forward to being coached into the playoffs by Scott Stine โ the winner of three of the last four Division 3 state titles while at Arbor Prep.
โCoach Stine wants us to be great and I love being challenged by a great staff,โ Hunt said. โIt is easy to have confidence in a staff like this.โ
Stineโs Ypsilanti Prep team knocked the Titans out of the Division 3 playoffs in the quarterfinals a year ago after a 19-win season for LCCHS.
Hunt is the main attraction at games with camera crews, photographers, and Division 1 coaches watching her every move. Coaches from the University of Michigan were at a Lumen Christi home game last week.
Only a sophomore, she has more than a dozen Division 1 offers โ including some that came before she even stepped on a varsity basketball court thanks to her play in AAU basketball.
Hunt honed her game in the small gym outside of her house facing off against her brothers and others.
โI played with the boys in sixth grade,โ Hunt remembers. โI love the amount of time it take to perfect your basketball game.
โIt motivates me to get better.โ
Hunt said that she goes all out โ no matter the score โ because that is what her teammates expect from her.
โNo matter what the score is I am going to give it my all,โ Hunt said. โMy teammates are right there too doing the same thing.โ
The LCCHS sophomore said having that many basketball scholarship opportunities is โa blessing.โ
โI am grateful when someone comes to watch me play basketball,โ Hunt said. โI love the enthusiasm that others show โฆ it gives us a lot of energy.โ
Hunt said the Titans have gotten better defensively this year and it shows in the stats.
Lumen Christi has held opponents to 40 points or fewer in 11-of-20 games this season.
โDefense is a huge part of our practice every day,โ Hunt said. โThose reps in practice become habitual (in games).
Hunt canโt make official college visit until later this summer and said she is just focusing on her game. But having a family atmosphere at whatever college she attends is important.
โI have seven brothers and sisters and I love hanging out with my family,โ Hunt said. โWe are a very competitive bunch.โ
