“Look at the differences between a typical preschool child’s hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isn’t able to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Play dough, coloring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc.
All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready.” ❤️

So excited to share a new YouTube channel created by one of my amazing patients!

This channel is part of their personal growth, self-expression, and confidence journey—and I had the honor of supporting them through the process.

With full consent from both the patient and their parent, I’m sharing to help amplify their voice and creativity.

What Is Private Duty Nursing?

Private duty nursing provides one-on-one, skilled nursing care to children with medical needs- right in the comfort of their own home.
Unlike the hospital or facility care, private duty nursing allows children to:
*Stay in a familiar environment
*Receive individualized attention
*Maintain routines with their family

Our pediatric nurses support children with needs such as:
*Feeding tubes
*Tracheostomies & ventilators
*Seizure disorders
*Chronic or complex medical conditions

Private duty nursing also supports families, giving parents peace of mind, education, and the ability to focus on being Mom or Dad - not just caregivers.

Over-bundling babies can lead to over-heating, which causes distress and can contribute to SIDS. Overbundling can also lead to hypothermia in a cold environment: babies who are swaddled have a harder time regulating their temperature and signalling distress.

Skin-to-skin with an adult, even for older babies and toddlers is the safest place to be.

Covering a baby's face with blanket causes re-breathing which is a risk factor for SIDS and prevents you from seeing distress. Keep your baby or child's face visible.
