You’ve been diagnosed with Periodontal Disease - but now what?

We know any new diagnosis can bring with it some trepidation and anxiety, but you don’t have to wonder what the next steps are at Elite Dental Care!
When you are diagnosed with Periodontal Disease, you will book two Periodontal Therapy appointments with one of our skilled Registered Dental Hygienists. During these appointments, one for the right side of your mouth and one for the left. At each appointment, that side of your mouth will be completely numbed to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
The hygienist will then perform scaling and root planing, as well as irrigation, fluoride treatment - in general ensuring nothing is left on your root surface or tooth, promoting gum attachment and healing. You will leave this appointment with a home care bundle; we want to make sure you have everything you need to help your mouth return to health!
After your initial two therapy appointments, you will come back for what we call “Periodontal Maintenance” appointments every three to four months until your hygienist has assessed and your gum health is restored to healthy pocket depths and you can return to a twice-yearly, standard cleaning schedule.
