Meet Lovey. Yes, that’s actually her name. No, she did not choose it, her villain origin story did.

Lovey is a 5-year-old German Shepherd mix with the face of a dark overlord and the heart of a marshmallow that fell into a pile of belly rubs. She looks like she protects ancient secrets in a haunted forest. In reality? She’s just an 80 pound snack drawer guardian who is waiting for you to sit down so she can aggressively request ear scratches.

Let’s address the aesthetic:
☑️She does look like she could eat your soul.
🚫She will not eat your soul.
☑️She will absolutely attempt to pilfer your chips when you’re not looking.

☑️Her crimes include:
☑️Conspiracy to commit snack theft
☑️Possession of an illegally cute snoot
☑️Excessive tail wagging
☑️Pretending she doesn’t like baby talk (she does)

At 5 years old, Lovey is in her “grown folks with standards” era. She walks beautifully on a leash (no sled-dog nonsense), is crate trained, housebroken, spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. Basically, she’s got her life together better than most of us.

She’s smart, observant, and gives off “I know things” energy — but what she mostly knows is how to:

☑️Lean dramatically into your legs for affection
☑️Stare into your eyes like she’s reading your browser history
☑️Materialize the second a cheese wrapper makes a sound
☑️Lovey is looking for a home where she can:
☑️Protect you from absolutely nothing
☑️Supervise your snack consumption
☑️Collect unlimited belly rubs as tribute

If you’ve ever wanted a dog who looks like the cover of an urban fantasy novel, but acts like a cuddly goof with snack-based ambitions, Lovey is your girl.

Adopt the “soul-eater” who only devours attention. 🖤

(*No, there is no filter on any of these photos. Yes, her eyes actually look like that.)

🚨 LONGEST RESIDENT UPDATE 🚨

After 237 days (yes, we counted… repeatedly… dramatically… with sighing), Chico has finally been adopted!!!

For 237 days Chico watched other dogs leave like, “Cool cool cool… love that for you… anyway I’ll just be here… again.”
For 237 days staff told him he was handsome, perfect, and absolutely someone’s soulmate.
For 237 days he said, “I would simply like a couch and perhaps a snack.”

AND GUESS WHAT — THE COUCH HAS BEEN ACQUIRED. 🎉

Chico officially left today with his family, and we are equal parts emotional wreck and ridiculously happy. The dogs who wait the longest always hit different, and seeing him walk out those doors was the best kind of victory.

Congratulations to Chico and his new family ❤️
Thank you for choosing the one who waited.

Now excuse us while we go cry in a supply closet for totally professional reasons. 🐾

Fannie said the seasonal depression is OVER and she is once again powered entirely by sunshine ☀️

After surviving the winter glum season like the rest of us, this middle-aged queen is back to enjoying the simple things in life… warm rays, fresh air, and the possibility of a couch that belongs to her forever.

Fannie is spayed, vaccinated, house trained, crate trained, and 100% ready to go home. She’s past the chaos phase of life and firmly in her “good dog, good vibes, good naps” era.

She would do best in a home with older kids or no kids where she can relax and be her best self.

If your life is missing a loyal sunshine buddy, Fannie is accepting applications. 🌼🐾

🚜🐾 BARN CAT PARTY (But Like… With Boundaries) 🐾🚜

We’ve got two handsome gentlemen looking for jobs, not couches.

Haxus is a certified BIG BOY™ with an even bigger heart. He enjoys affection, appreciates a good scratch, and will happily accept your admiration… but he’s also lived that independent life long enough to know he prefers freedom. Think “friendly neighbor” energy, not “Velcro house cat.” He would thrive as a barn/shop/outdoor cat where he can patrol, explore, and occasionally stop by for some love.

Calvin comes equipped with a cute little bobbed tail and a face that says “angel,” while his personality says “spicy minion with opinions.” He enjoys cuddles… right up until he doesn’t… and then you may receive a surprise chomp. It’s part of his charm. He’s not suited for indoor living, but he will absolutely excel at rodent control while keeping things entertaining.

Both boys are:
✅ Healthy
✅ Vetted
✅ Excellent mousers in training
✅ Not interested in your indoor lifestyle choices (or small kids)

If you’ve got a barn, shop, garage, property, or safe outdoor setup and you’re looking for working cats who will earn their keep (and occasionally accept affection on their own terms), these guys are ready to clock in.

Message us if you can give Haxus or Calvin a place to call their territory. 🐱💼

Meet Hatter! 🐾

We can’t decide who’s more photogenic in this picture — Hatter or Officer Simmons! 🚔😄 The “good-lookin’ officer and adoptable pup” combo seems to be turning into a trend, and we sure appreciate the support!

Hatter is a 1-year-old hound mix with a nose that just doesn’t quit. Because he loves to follow every interesting scent, he’ll need a secure, fenced yard. Without it, he may end up three counties over solving mysteries we didn’t assign him.

When meeting new people, Hatter can be a little shy at first. But give him a minute to realize you’re a friend, and he blossoms into the gentlest, sweetest companion you could ask for. He’s the kind of boy who bonds deeply and loves wholeheartedly.

✔️ Crate trained
✔️ Neutered
✔️ Vaccinated
✔️ Heartworm negative
✔️ Adoption fee: only $80

If you’re looking for a loyal, soft-hearted pup with a curious spirit and a nose for adventure, Hatter is your guy. Come meet him and see just how quickly he’ll steal your heart. 🐶💕

💙🐾 Bo Deserved a Soft Place to Land 🐾💙

Some dogs struggle in the shelter environment — and sweet Bo was one of them.

Bo recently transferred from Jackson Animal Care and Control to Companion Pet Rescue, and while we’re so grateful for this next step, getting here was heartbreaking to watch.

Bo is a higher-energy boy who needs room to move, think, and be. The noise, constant activity, and stress of the shelter overwhelmed him quickly. Day by day, we saw his anxiety build. His spark started to fade. His behavior, driven by stress, began to deteriorate along with his mental health.

He wasn’t a “bad dog.”
He was a stressed dog.
A sensitive dog.
A dog who simply wasn’t thriving in this environment.

When Companion Pet Rescue stepped forward and offered him a safe place to land, it felt like a lifeline. A quieter space. A chance to decompress. A chance to breathe.

We cannot thank CPR enough for seeing past the stress and recognizing the good, loving dog underneath it all. This transition truly gives Bo the opportunity to reset and show the world who he really is.

Please keep Bo in your thoughts as he settles in. And from the bottom of our hearts, thank you to Companion Pet Rescue for giving this boy the fresh start he so desperately needed. 🐶💛

🐾💙 Shoutout to JPD Sgt. Insalaco! 💙🐾

We have to give a big thank you to Jackson Police Department Sgt. Insalaco for bravely volunteering to be Franklin’s official chew toy during a recent photo op! 😄

Franklin clearly took his role very seriously, and Sgt. Insalaco was a great sport about it. That’s the kind of community partnership (and good humor!) we love to see.

The best part? 🐶✨ Franklin was adopted over the weekend!

We couldn’t let this moment go unshared. Thank you to Sgt. Insalaco for stepping up, and congratulations to Franklin and his new family! ❤️🏡

🐾 Got a spare room and a soft spot for tiny toe beans? 🐾

Tiny paws need big hearts! Kitten season is about to kick up, and we’re searching for compassionate foster families ready to open their homes to kittens for a short-term stay of 2–6 weeks, depending on their age.

Fostering is a lifesaving role and it won’t cost you a thing except your time and love.

🐾 We provide everything you need:
• Food, formula if needed, and supplies
• Litter and bedding
• All medical care and vet expenses
• Guidance and support every step of the way

🏡 You provide:
• A safe, indoor space for kittens to stay temporarily
• Daily care and attention
• Socialization, playtime, and lots of snuggles

That’s it! No financial commitment, just a loving environment where kittens can grow strong and ready for adoption.

If you’ve been wanting to help animals but can’t commit long-term, fostering is the perfect way to make a real difference in a short amount of time.

Ready to make a difference for kittens in need?
