More than 70 million people with disabilities need Protection and Advocacy (P&A) services, but funding for these programs does not meet that need.

That’s why we need your help.

Currently, letters are circulating in the House of Representative to support increased funding for P&As. This funding will empower P&As to address new needs from the disability community, like aging and caregiving, while continuing their current important work, like free legal advocacy and investigations into institutions.

Join us in ensuring that people with disabilities can fully participate in their communities. Send a note to your Representative asking them to support increased funding at https://secure.everyaction.com/2gR_C8rPhk2y5OtgFXbSVw2.

This , learn more about Mississippi's Developmental Disabilities Network - a group we are so proud to be a part of!

The Developmental Disabilities (DD) Network consists of three partners in each state and territory authorized under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 (DD Act) and administered by the Administration on Disabilities. This includes the University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, State Protection and Advocacy Systems, and State Developmental Disabilities Councils. In Mississippi, these agencies are the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, Disability Rights Mississippi, and the Mississippi Council on Developmental Disabilities.

The DD Act authorizes the DD Network for the purpose of assuring that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of and have access to needed community services, individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination, independence, productivity, and integration and inclusion in all facets of community life, through culturally competent programs.

🫁 Shortness of breath can turn everyday work tasks into major challenges. For individuals with Long COVID, breathing difficulties may occur with minimal exertion — including walking short distances, speaking for extended periods, or working in certain environments.

In the workplace, shortness of breath may affect:
✔ Physical stamina
✔ Task endurance
✔ Overall productivity
✔ Safety and environmental tolerance

Understanding how respiratory symptoms impact employment is essential for creating appropriate supports and accommodations. The Career Horizons Project is committed to helping Mississippians with disabilities accompanied by or resulting from Long COVID access and maintain meaningful employment.

People with developmental disabilities are our neighbors, friends, and coworkers. When people with developmental disabilities have access to education, employment, and full participation, they contribute to their local community like everyone else.

DRMS is excited to highlight DD Awareness Month and the “We’re Here. Then, Now, Always.” Campaign to bring to light the positive impact of people with developmental disabilities in their communities. Let's celebrate their contributions this Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!
