Courtney Berry, 85, of Campton, Kentucky, departed this earthly life Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born on July 8, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Courtney R. and Rose Benovich Berry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Holbrook Berry whom he lovingly referred to as "Momma".

Courtney proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, dedicating five years to service—two active and three inactive. He was also a member of the Campton VA where he connected with fellow veterans and continued to honor his commitment to his country.

For much of his career, Courtney worked as a forklift operator for Ford Motor Co., contributing to the automotive industry with dedication and hard work. Outside of his professional life, he had a passion for tinkering and fixing things. Whether it was working on old cars or lawnmowers, Courtney’s hands were rarely idle. He also enjoyed collecting radios and cowboy hats, showcasing his appreciation for unique items that reflected his personality.

Courtney’s hobbies brought him great joy throughout his life. He was an avid *MacGyver*, always tinkering with something, He loved music and could often be found driving around in his beloved red 1998 Corvette. A regular at the Dairy Queen in Campton, Courtney cherished these simple pleasures and the connections they brought him. His love for life extended to spending time with friends and family while sharing stories and laughter.

Courtney is survived by special friends who became like adoptive family: Susan and Kenny Helton and Anna and Larry Banks; sons, David Berry and Kevin Berry; stepdaughters, Darlene Bregg and Diane Alsept; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Visitation for Courtney will begin Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM with David Spencer and Mike Spencer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Holbrook Family Cemetery at Wolf Creek, Kentucky with Dave Miller, Raymond Banks, Rick Alexander, Ricky Case, Keith Helton, Gary Lee Holbrook and Tommy Terry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Kenny Helton, Larry Banks and Jackie Michael "Beep Beep" Cox.

Courtney’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His love for adventure, knack for fixing things and warm presence will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Jesse Raleigh, 81 of Turner's Creek, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026 at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, Kentucky. Born on January 12, 1945 in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Jesse lived a life rooted in family, hard work and simple joys.

Jesse worked at a sheet metal factory in Newport, Kentucky. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing with his special nephew, Cameron Tharp, relaxing at home, watching sports and hunting. These activities brought him much joy.

A man of faith, Jesse attended Turner's Creek Church of Christ, where he found spiritual guidance and fellowship throughout his life.

Jesse was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lizzie Raleigh; his parents, Green and Polly Raleigh; his brother, Jerry Raleigh and his sister, Elsie Raleigh. He is survived by his sisters, Betty (Mitchell) Turner, Ruth (Silas) Hall, Belle (Johnny) Raleigh and Julie (Henry) Hall. In addition to Cameron Tharp, Jesse leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will cherish their memories of him.

Graveside service will be held for Jesse, Monday, March 16, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Raleigh Cemetery at Turner's Creek with Silas Hall officiating. Burial will follow after the ceremony with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Miriam H. Allen Little, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on January 27, 1934 in Whick, Kentucky, Miriam lived a long and fulfilling life devoted to her family, faith and the simple joys that brought her happiness.

Miriam was the wife of the late Charles "Chalk" Little and the daughter of the late Ervine Sr. and Alice Turner Allen. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charlie H. Little; her granddaughter, Mikaela Little and her siblings, Lena Fay Allen, Lillie Belle Allen, Joyce Maria Campbell, Curtis Allen, Lindberg Allen, Jesse W. Allen and R. Douglas Allen.

She grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and carried those values into her own life. A dedicated homemaker and retired telephone operator, Miriam balanced her professional responsibilities with her unwavering commitment to nurturing her family.

Miriam is survived by her children, Jeffrey Lind Little (Kim) and Kymberly Little Bailey (Mark). Miriam’s love for her children extended to her grandchildren—Tia Little, Jeffrey Clayton Little, Alicia Elizabeth Little, Lauren Ashley Little, Charles Josiah Bailey, Charlee Hope Little—and she treasured every moment spent with them. She is also survived by her brothers, Ervine Allen Jr. and Ronnie G. Allen.

A woman of deep faith, Miriam attended Providence Pentecostal Church for many years. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of who she was—a source of strength that guided her through life’s challenges and joys alike.

Miriam found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. Flowers brightened her days as much as bird watching did—she delighted in observing nature’s beauty around her. Site seeing and family gatherings were among her favorite activities; these moments allowed Miriam to create lasting memories with those she held dear.

Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals—a testament to her love for cooking and baking. Her cornbread and jam cake were legendary among family members and friends alike—a true reflection of the warmth she brought into every aspect of life.

Visitation for Miriam will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the Breathitt Funeral Home with her funeral service to begin Friday, March 13, 2026 at 1:00 PM with Gary Bellamy officiating.

A private entombment will be held at a later date.

Miriam’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her for the love she gave so freely and the joy she brought into their lives.

Benjamin "Ben" Miller, 66, of Clayhole, Kentucky entered eternal rest peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Born on April 9, 1959, in Wilstacy, Kentucky, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work and his passions.

Ben was a skilled heavy equipment operator who took pride in his career. His work ethic and commitment were evident in everything he did. Outside of his profession, Ben found joy in the simple pleasures of life—riding motorcycles, working his tractor, spending time outdoors and cherishing moments with his family. He was also a devoted member of Decoy Community Church.

Ben shared 46 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Miller. Together they built a loving family that includes their daughters, Jessica Ellis (Shane) and Kayla Miller; their son Gavyn Daniel; and their cherished grandchildren, Harley Miller, Caige Ellis, Kaizley Ellis, Haidyn Russell, Mikaylyn Miller, Noah Miller and Jaxtyn Daniel. Ben is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Melva Marie Miller; his sisters, Lillian Dunn, Rita Burnsworth, Helen Miller and Daisy Barnett (Jr.), as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his son, Shane Miller; grandson, Gary Michael Miller; son-in-law, Chucky Daniel; parents, Johnny Sr. and Audrey Mullins Miller; brothers, Carl "Scrub" Miller, Johnny Jr. "Bug" Miller, James Miller and Lee Collins; and sisters, Delphia Fraley and Kansie Collins Marshall.

Visitation for Ben will begin Friday, March 13, 2026 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel with additional services to be held Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 beginning at 7:00 PM. Funeral service is scheduled to be held Sunday, March 15, at 12:00 PM with Sherman Clemons, Larry Montgomery Murrell, Paul Statton, Harold Clemons and Jesse Acosta officiating.

Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery at Clayhole with Gavyn Daniel, Caige Ellis, Shane Ellis, Todd Hall, A.C. Smith, Tim Miller, Harley Miller, Aaron Oliver, Jax Daniel and Noah Miller serving as pallbearers.

Ben’s legacy is one of love for his family and an enduring passion for the things that brought him happiness. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Jolena Waverly Fletcher was carried with love for 27 weeks before being delivered into Heaven on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Kentucky.

Though Jolena never opened her eyes on this earth, she was deeply loved and will forever remain in the hearts of those who awaited her arrival.

She is survived by her parents, Willie & Tonya Lynn Fletcher; brother, Jerry Winston Fletcher; sisters, Willow Jene Fletcher and Josie Wren Fletcher; maternal grandmother, Missy Neace; maternal grandfather, Christian Neace; paternal grandmother, May Fletcher; aunts, Courtney Neace (Daltion) and Holly Davis (Tayler); uncle, Nathaniel Fletcher (Natasha); special great aunt and uncle Tina & Dale Howard; and a host of other family.

She joins in Heaven her paternal grandfather, Ivan Fletcher.

Amanda Dawn Willett, 39, of Bowling Creek, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard. Born on November 27, 1986 in Lexington, Kentucky, Amanda was the daughter of the late Melissa Willett and the granddaughter of the late William and Stella Willett.

Amanda dedicated her life to being a homemaker and mother, roles she cherished deeply. She found immense joy in spending time with her family and embraced hobbies that brought her closer to nature and her loved ones. Whether fishing by the water’s edge, riding four-wheelers through the countryside, tending to her garden or exploring treasures at yard sales, Amanda lived a life filled with simple pleasures and meaningful connections.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Amanda attended several churches throughout her journey, including Bowling Creek Mennonite Church and Altro Church of God. These places of worship provided her with spiritual guidance and a sense of community.

Amanda is survived by her companion, David Turner; her beloved son, Cayden Scott Turner; her aunts, Billie Jean Willett and Tina Smith and her uncles, Charles Willett and Jesse Willett.

Lonnie Delbert Shaffer, 77, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on October 11, 1948 in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Dexter Delbert and Virginia Mae Burdette Shaffer.

Lonnie moved to Jackson in 2022 to be closer to his daughters, Jenna Shaffer of Letcher County and Melissa Hall (Jeremy) and his grandchildren, Addyson Hall and Jaxton Hall, all of Jackson. He also wanted to be closer to his ex-wife, Germaine Shaffer who he called the "mother of his children and best friend."

Lonnie had three children by a previous marriage, Jill, Rhonda and David Shaffer, all of Phoenix, AZ.

Lonnie was a proud US Army veteran. After he retired, he began an extended career as a truck driver, both long haul and hazmat. His patriotism and work ethic reflected his commitment and determination, qualities that defined most of his life.

Lonnie's memory will be cherished by those who love him.

Pauline G. Ison, 90, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away peacefully at her home in Lexington, Kentucky on March 3, 2026. Born on January 13, 1936 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Edgar and Lona Hampton Ison.

Pauline dedicated her life to being a loving homemaker and mother. Her family was at the heart of everything she did, and she found immense joy in nurturing those around her. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and specialized in creating beautiful dresses for her clientele. Her passion for antiques and her deep love for family were central to her life.

Pauline was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky where her faith provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life.

She is survived by her son, Robin Gillum; her sisters, Barbara Osborne and Wanda Mullins and her granddaughter, Sarah Marie Gillum. Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Doug" Ison; her parents, Edgar and Lona Ison; her brother, Donald Ison; her sister, Lucille Sallee and her nephew, Mark Stephen Mullins.

Danny Gross, 69, of Jackson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2026 at his residence. Born on August 14, 1956, in Lexington, Kentucky, Danny was the son of the late Kynard and Wanda Williams Gross.

Danny had a passion for woodworking and found joy in working outside, where he could connect with nature and create with his hands. He also loved watching *The Price Is Right* and listening to music, which brought him comfort and happiness throughout his life.

He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Gary Gross; his sister, Karen Gross Miller; his nieces, Berlena Gross Montgomery, Dema Gross Alsept, Melana Gross, and Sherry Gross Howard; his nephew, Dwain Gross; his companion, Penny Caudill; and his dear friend, Eddie Fugate.

Charles Lee Fugate, 76, of Jackson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026. Born on March 23, 1949, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Charles lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.

Charles was a skilled heavy equipment operator and dedicated much of his career to Falcon Coal Company. His work ethic and commitment to his craft were admired by all who knew him.

Charles attended the New Light Community Church, where his faith served as a cornerstone of his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and ginseng hunting were among his favorite pastimes. He also loved traveling and cherished every moment spent with his beloved family.

Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Becky Johnson Fugate; his son, Albert Lee Fugate (Bernadette); his daughter, Jennifer Parks (Donald Glenn); his brother, Robert Dale Fugate (Carolyn Sue) and his sister, Phyllis Johnson (Cecil). He was a proud grandfather to Charles Albert (Zack), Jordan Ray (Felicia), Jacob, Jordan West, Vincent, ShaLayna (Michael), Makayla (Jason), Shelly (Kels), Shelby, Rhea and Heather. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Kayden, Aaron, Braylon, Gabriel, Gunner, Ashton, Domanik, Stiles, Zephyr, Sophia, and Hannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Press and Josephine Back Fugate; his son, Gary Ray Fugate; his grandson, Benjamin; his brothers Ben, Brison, Farish, Henry Clay, Harlan, John Wayne, Bill, James Arthur, Gene; and his sisters Ellen, Cora, Stella, Eva, Edna, Pauline, and Dave.

Visitation for Charles will be Friday, March 6, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Breathitt Funeral Home with his funeral service scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 1:00 PM with Lee Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fugate Cemetery at Southfork with Jacob Parks, Robert Ray Fugate and family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Charles will be remembered for the love he shared with those around him and the countless memories he created with family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
