Charles Lee Fugate, 76, of Jackson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026. Born on March 23, 1949, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Charles lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.
Charles was a skilled heavy equipment operator and dedicated much of his career to Falcon Coal Company. His work ethic and commitment to his craft were admired by all who knew him.
Charles attended the New Light Community Church, where his faith served as a cornerstone of his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and ginseng hunting were among his favorite pastimes. He also loved traveling and cherished every moment spent with his beloved family.
Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Becky Johnson Fugate; his son, Albert Lee Fugate (Bernadette); his daughter, Jennifer Parks (Donald Glenn); his brother, Robert Dale Fugate (Carolyn Sue) and his sister, Phyllis Johnson (Cecil). He was a proud grandfather to Charles Albert (Zack), Jordan Ray (Felicia), Jacob, Jordan West, Vincent, ShaLayna (Michael), Makayla (Jason), Shelly (Kels), Shelby, Rhea and Heather. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Kayden, Aaron, Braylon, Gabriel, Gunner, Ashton, Domanik, Stiles, Zephyr, Sophia, and Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Press and Josephine Back Fugate; his son, Gary Ray Fugate; his grandson, Benjamin; his brothers Ben, Brison, Farish, Henry Clay, Harlan, John Wayne, Bill, James Arthur, Gene; and his sisters Ellen, Cora, Stella, Eva, Edna, Pauline, and Dave.
Visitation for Charles will be Friday, March 6, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Breathitt Funeral Home with his funeral service scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 1:00 PM with Lee Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fugate Cemetery at Southfork with Jacob Parks, Robert Ray Fugate and family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Charles will be remembered for the love he shared with those around him and the countless memories he created with family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
