After a wisdom tooth is removed, a blood clot forms in the empty socket to protect the bone and help healing. If that clot becomes dislodged or dissolves too soon, it leaves the bone exposed. This painful condition is called dry socket.
To avoid dry socket, follow the instructions provided by Dr. Quon, including:
- Don’t smoke, v**e, or use straws while healing.
- Avoid spitting forcefully or rinsing too hard.
- Stick to soft foods for the first few days.
Dry socket is uncommon, and most people heal without issues. If any problems arise in your recovery, don't hesitate to reach out: (601) 957-1207
