Turns out cows might tell you their personality… right on their forehead.
If we’re being honest, a few people do the same thing.

There’s something about that last moment that sneaks up on you…

It starts with them strapped into the buddy seat (typically bc mom had to work and cows still need fed), head against the window, usually asleep before you finish chores.

Then before long you’re kicked out of the driver’s seat and riding shotgun while they learn the clutch, the throttle, and how to ease through the feedlot without scattering cows in every direction.

And one day he just gives you a thumbs up through the window and takes off.

Funny thing is, you never see that last ride coming…

Proud of you, Lucas. 🚜👍

Two years ago today we started something called Savory Sunday.

For nearly a year Ashley shared some of her favorite beef recipes using Lazy Creek Meats, and it turned out a lot of folks enjoyed them as much as we did. Then life got busy, the farm got busy, and we took a little break… about a year to be exact.

But we’re bringing it back.

If you know us, you know we cook at home quite a bit. Between feeding the family, feeding friends, and the occasional “let’s try something new,” Ashley has had plenty of practice over the years (and I’ve had the privilege of taste testing… someone has to do it).

We’re keeping the Savory Sunday name because honestly it just fits. Sundays still feel like the best time for families to slow down, gather around the table, and enjoy good food and good company.

So to kick things back off, here’s one of Ashley’s favorites: Balsamic Steak Pasta — a quick, flavorful dish that comes together in about 30 minutes.

If you give it a try, let us know what you think.

And if you need the steak… well, we know a place. 🥩

Lucas has decided he wants a beef feeder project next year.

Not buy one.
Raise one.

So this weekend he helped synchronize two cows so we can breed them in about 10 days. If everything works out, we’ll have a Christmas calf.

I reminded him about Julian, the December calf that fought through a pretty rough winter.

Lucas didn’t hesitate:
“That’s okay… I’ll put in the work.”

Around here the rule is simple —
if you want it, you work for it. Nothing in this life is free. 🐄

Last week we snuck away for a little trip — something we try to do about this time every year before calving season begins. After a long, challenging winter and busy schedules, it’s nice to step away for a few days to rest and reset.

We especially wanted to spend some good family time together before calving season, spring sports, and life in general gets even busier.

Now we’re back home and getting ready for one of our favorite times of the year. Our first baby of 2026 should be arriving any day now, and we can’t wait to welcome our first little calf of the season.

There’s just something special about watching this turn into pure, fluffy goodness.

Made with:
• Beef tallow straight from our farm
• Organic jojoba oil
• Organic vitamin E oil
• Essential oils

Why people love tallow:

✔️ Deeply moisturizing (without feeling greasy)
✔️ Naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E & K
✔️ Supports skin barrier repair
✔️ Gentle for sensitive skin
✔️ Great for dry patches, cracked hands, and everyday hydration

Jojoba oil closely mimics your skin’s natural oils, helping balance and soften.
Vitamin E adds antioxidant protection and supports healthy-looking skin.
And our essential oils? Just the right touch for a clean, natural scent.

Simple ingredients. Farm-raised. Skin-loving.

Not all herd work happens in the pasture. Some of it happens at the DNA level. 🧬🐄

This blue tool is called a TSU gun. We use it to collect a very small tissue sample from the edge of a cow’s ear—about the size of a grain of rice.

It works similarly to an ear piercing. The applicator quickly takes the sample and seals it inside a sterile container. It takes just a second, causes minimal discomfort, and the animal is back to eating hay like nothing happened.

That tiny sample gives us powerful information through DNA analysis—helping us understand each animal’s genetic strengths (and weaknesses) for carcass quality, efficiency, maternal traits, and overall performance.

This allows us to make smarter breeding decisions and continuously improve the quality and consistency of the beef we produce.

Better beef starts long before it reaches your plate.

Winter cleanup on the home farm.
Brush piles burning, calves watching, and a hay field getting ready for spring growth.

Hard to believe in a few months we’ll be out here cutting hay under blue skies. 🔥 ☀️🌾
