“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” – Psalm 56:8, ESV.
Recently, we were able to minister to a young mom who had lost one of her precious children not long ago. Still processing a loss too devastating for words, she told our advocate and nurse that she was unsure if she could face another pregnancy at this time.
When people share their unbearable grief with you, do you listen? Do you sit with them in their sorrow? Do you pray with them? Do you tell them of the hope you have within you, that God Himself is longing to hold them in the palm of His hand? It can be hard to know what to say in moments like these. Often, it isn’t what you say that brings comfort, but whether you do for them what Jesus does for you – grieve WITH them and always stay nearby.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Cor. 1:3-4, ESV.
The young mother who came to see us did change her mind on abortion, by the way. She is now planning to give life to her child.
