Today, we are featuring our AWESOME assistant program directors! Dr. Gilliam, Dr. Schneider, Dr. Hood, and Dr. Morgan work hard to make sure residents are getting the best education and experience possible while also being general pediatric hospitalists and wearing so many other hats! This picture was taken when they ALL were on wards the same week! Each have their own “house”. Each residency class is split 4 ways into a house that meets once monthly. The APDs discuss changes, issues, listen to complaints, and more during these meetings. Each house also competes through the year gaining points different ways. Our APDs ensure we are meeting our milestones, prepping for boards, and more!
Dr. Hood is our newest APD to join the crew. She is fellowship trained in pediatric hospital medicine, and we are thankful for all she brings to the table from education, to residency experience, to administration! She is a wonderful role model, mentor, and friend. See what she has to say about being an APD!
“I’ve been so excited to take on the role of Associate Program Director this year. Resident mentorship is one of my favorite parts of being an academic hospitalist. Watching residents grow in their confidence and clinical skills is incredibly rewarding. Our residents are eager to learn and to provide compassionate, comprehensive care for our patients. I can’t imagine a better place to work than Children’s of Mississippi!”
