Clinics statewide will remain closed on Wednesday, Feb. 25, and elective procedures are cancelled. Appointments will be rescheduled when possible.

UMMC hospitals and Emergency Departments in Jackson, Grenada, Madison County and Holmes County remain open.

The UMMC Triage Line has been set up for calls from patients. The telephone number is 601-815-0000. For medical emergencies, call 911.

Requests for time-sensitive needs, such as medication refills or postoperative care visits, will be prioritized.

What to expect when you call

Please speak clearly when prompted to provide your name, callback number, date of birth, who you are trying to reach and your reason for calling. People calling for prescription refills should have on hand the medication name and dosage, plus the name, address and telephone number of their pharmacy.

About the call back

Messages will be routed to the appropriate person for a return phone call, in as timely a manner as possible. Please be aware your return call may be from a non-UMMC number. Return calls may be delayed as we anticipate a high volume of calls daily from across the state.

Please do not call multiple times. Repeated calls will slow our ability to respond.

We apologize for this interruption of our services. Teams are working around the clock to restore full operations and help as many people as quickly as we possibly can.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Mississippi teens are experiencing rising rates of depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, and demand for specialized care continues to grow. Children’s of Mississippi has opened a new adolescent acute psychiatric unit designed specifically for patients ages 13 to 17, filling a long-standing gap in inpatient services. Learn how hospital leaders say the new unit will improve safety, continuity of care and support for families: https://umc.edu/news/News_Articles/2026/02/adolescent-acute-psychiatric-unit.html

A few of our residents represented us at Primary Care Day with the Mississippi legislature. We are so proud of them! Advocacy for our patients on all levels is so important to us.

Chandler Noel, a PGY-2, was awarded with the ā€œYou Make A Differenceā€ Award. With this award, each resident is given a starfish pin to signify the story that goes along with this award, which essentially means even with the smallest act, can make a big difference! We are so proud of you, Chandler!

Meet the group that keeps our residency running like a well oiled machine!
Bruce Wayne, I mean Dr. Crout, is our fearless leader! As program director (and after hours as Batman) he is basically our residency dad! He knows all things pediatrics, GME, and Andy Griffith! Need an antibiotic rec? He is your guy! Movie quote or dad joke? Just stop by his office! He has dedicated his entire career to the children of Mississippi and most of his career to teaching medical students and residents. We couldn’t be more thankful for him!

Laura is our Manager of Health Education / Residency Program Administrator. She wears so many hats, we really can’t even tell you all of her jobs! She has always been our medical student mom and part time residency mom, but has recently become full time residency mom after retired. She is a Disney enthusiast, keeper of candy, and friend! We miss Melanie so much so are so thankful to Laura for stepping in so flawlessly!

Vicki and Sarah are Residency/Fellowship Program Coordinators but step in to any role we need! They are always ready to help and are some of our best assets and cheerleaders.

Today, we are featuring our AWESOME assistant program directors! Dr. Gilliam, Dr. Schneider, Dr. Hood, and Dr. Morgan work hard to make sure residents are getting the best education and experience possible while also being general pediatric hospitalists and wearing so many other hats! This picture was taken when they ALL were on wards the same week! Each have their own ā€œhouseā€. Each residency class is split 4 ways into a house that meets once monthly. The APDs discuss changes, issues, listen to complaints, and more during these meetings. Each house also competes through the year gaining points different ways. Our APDs ensure we are meeting our milestones, prepping for boards, and more!

Dr. Hood is our newest APD to join the crew. She is fellowship trained in pediatric hospital medicine, and we are thankful for all she brings to the table from education, to residency experience, to administration! She is a wonderful role model, mentor, and friend. See what she has to say about being an APD!

ā€œI’ve been so excited to take on the role of Associate Program Director this year. Resident mentorship is one of my favorite parts of being an academic hospitalist. Watching residents grow in their confidence and clinical skills is incredibly rewarding. Our residents are eager to learn and to provide compassionate, comprehensive care for our patients. I can’t imagine a better place to work than Children’s of Mississippi!ā€
