Health Update: One Reason Too Much Sitting Is Unhealthy.
Serum osmolality is a measure of the concentration of dissolved particles in the liquid portion of the blood, reflecting the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance. Higher serum osmolality has been associated with poorer cardiovascular outcomes. A recent study found that as sitting time increases, so does serum osmolality—possibly due to reduced hydration, greater consumption of diuretic beverages, delayed bathroom breaks, and elevated blood sugar levels from snacking. The findings point to one potential mechanism by which prolonged sitting may negatively affect cardiometabolic health.

Why Skipping Meals Hurts Your Body (and Your Immune System) 🥗🚫

In today’s busy world, it’s easy to skip meals, cut calories too low, or grab unhealthy foods on the go. But consistently not eating enough—or not eating well—can do more harm than you think, especially to your immune system.

Your body relies on a steady supply of nutrients like protein, vitamins, and minerals to function properly. When you skip meals or “starve” yourself, you’re not giving your body the fuel it needs to stay strong. Over time, this can lead to nutrient deficiencies, low energy, and even muscle breakdown.

More importantly, your immune system takes a direct hit. Research shows that undernutrition can weaken immune responses, reduce the production of infection-fighting cells, and make you more vulnerable to illness. That means you’re more likely to catch colds, infections, and take longer to recover.

Skipping meals also causes blood sugar drops, leading to fatigue, irritability, and poor focus. Over time, your body may even slow down your metabolism and hold onto fat as a survival response.
The good news? Small, consistent changes can make a big difference.

Simple Tips to Support Your Health:
>Eat regular meals to keep your energy and blood sugar stable
>Focus on balanced foods (protein, healthy fats, fruits, veggies)
>Keep healthy snacks on hand when you’re busy
>Stay hydrated—sometimes fatigue is actually dehydration
>Don’t skip meals to lose weight—it often backfires

At 45 Urgent Care, we see how lifestyle habits impact your health every day. Fueling your body properly isn’t just about energy—it’s about protecting your immune system and staying well.

💙 Take care of your body… it’s the only one you’ve got.

Health Update: Carb Quality Matters.
While low-carbohydrate diets are often promoted for improving health, a study involving nearly 200,000 adults found that carbohydrate quality also matters. Whole and minimally processed carbohydrate sources were associated with more favorable metabolic biomarkers—including lower triglycerides, higher HDL cholesterol, and reduced inflammation—while refined and processed carbohydrates were linked to poorer cardiometabolic profiles.

Why You Feel Fine One Minute and Sick the Next 🤒

Have you ever gone from feeling perfectly fine to suddenly run-down, nauseous, or feverish—almost out of nowhere? It can feel confusing (and frustrating), but there’s actually a reason your body seems to “flip a switch.”

Many illnesses don’t hit all at once. Your body can be fighting off an infection for hours—or even days—before you notice symptoms. During that time, your immune system is working behind the scenes. Once it ramps up its response, that’s when symptoms like fatigue, chills, body aches, or a sore throat can suddenly appear.

Viruses like the common cold, flu, or even stomach bugs are known for this fast onset. One minute you’re going about your day, and the next, you’re wondering how you got sick so quickly. Dehydration, stress, lack of sleep, or even skipping meals can also make symptoms feel more intense and come on faster.
It’s your body’s way of signaling that something isn’t right—and that it needs attention.

The key is to listen. If symptoms come on suddenly and feel severe, don’t ignore them. Things like high fever, persistent vomiting, shortness of breath, or intense pain should always be checked out.

At 45 Urgent Care, we’re here to help you get answers quickly—no appointment needed. Whether it’s a sudden illness, infection, or just not feeling like yourself, our team is ready to get you back on track.

Health Update: Move More, Sit Less!
Researchers from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences report that adding just five minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day and reducing sedentary time by 30 minutes could prevent a meaningful proportion of early deaths at the population level—potentially up to about 10% and 7%, respectively.

🌼 Pollen Season: Why You Feel So Bad (and What to Do About It)

Every spring in Jackson, TN, pollen levels spike—and for many people, that means more than just a little sneezing. Pollen is a fine powder released by trees, grass, and weeds, and it can easily enter your body through breathing, your eyes, or even your skin. Once inside, it triggers your immune system, leading to symptoms like congestion, runny nose, itchy eyes, headaches, fatigue, and even a sore throat. For some, it can feel just like a cold or sinus infection.

What many people don’t realize is how often they’re coming into contact with pollen without knowing it. It can cling to your clothes, hair, pets, car interiors, and even groceries. You might think you’re safe indoors, but pollen can still follow you inside and linger in your home or workplace.

Here are a few simple ways to reduce exposure.
>Leave your shoes at the door to avoid tracking pollen inside
>Change clothes after being outdoors
>Wipe down your phone and sunglasses daily
>Rinse your sinuses with saline
>Shower before bed to remove built-up pollen
>Keep windows closed during high pollen counts

But when should you come see us at 45 Urgent Care? If your symptoms aren’t improving, feel severe, or start to mimic a sinus infection—like facial pressure, fever, or thick drainage—it’s time to get checked out. Pollen can also trigger asthma or bronchitis, leading to coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath.

At 45 Urgent Care, we’re here to help you breathe easier and feel better—fast. Don’t wait it out if your symptoms are getting worse. Let us help you get back to feeling like yourself again! 🌿
