✨Staff Highlight: Jaime✨
The final staff highlight we have to share with you all is Jaime Lawrence. Jaime is the founder of Harmony Garden Music Therapy Services and she has been working on building this practice and business for the past 19 years - next year will be 20! Jame is a board certified music therapist who develops contracts, does consultation work, community work, and leads events. She’s not currently providing direct services, but that could change any day. She’s grateful to lead a team of amazing women who she couldn’t do Harmony Garden without!
Jaime currently focuses a lot of her energy on the community focused, forward facing events that Harmony Garden runs. She started collaborating with multiple community groups to start HeyyyPrettyMomma! Meetups, but has completely transitioned it into a new community for moms that offers support, free food, and resources called The Village Collective. Jaime is also the lead singer of the Harmony Gardeners - been to one of our summer concerts? Then I am positive you’ve heard all the fun, upbeat family music that she covers and writes (did you know a lot of their new stuff are originals?) Jaime is also the only person on staff who is trained in sound healing. You might have noticed some of the ads for these sound healings where you can bring a mat and focus inwards for the duration of the event. Jaime’s passions for Harmony Garden include continuing to expand, finding new ways to serve the community that she loves, and promoting wellness for all populations.
🎤Interview and Chit Chat🎤
Q: If you could have lunch with any musician in history, who would it be?
A: Brandi Carlile, because she is my favorite… She helped bring Joni Mitchell (my second lunch date pick) back to the stage at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022 after decades away. This powerful return parallels how music supports recovery and reconnection following a stroke or other medical condition. Also, it’s amazing what love can do and Brandi Carlile emulates love.
Q: What is something you love to do outside of work?
A: I love being involved with musical theatre. I serve on the board for Center Stage Jackson, our local community theatre, and enjoy supporting the art of musical theatre and cabaret both behind the scenes and on stage. There’s something magical about stepping into a role and becoming someone else for a moment. It’s an experience I think everyone should have at least once in their lives!
Q: What inspired you to explore music therapy?
A: I was a music ed major and realized I didn’t want to be a band director. I almost dropped out of MSU to go to a scuba diving school in Florida (I’ve been a scuba diver since I was 13yrs old). My parents asked me to give MSU one more year… They had music therapy as a major, so I gave it a try and fell in love with a career.
Q: What’s your favorite part of your job?
A: No two days are ever the same. Every session brings something new, and through music therapy I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people, witnessing countless success stories, and watching music transform lives in powerful ways. It’s truly a gift to be part of that.
