Newborn care isn’t rushed. It’s slow, intentional, and guided by baby. From assessments to comfort, every touch has a purpose. This is what slow, intentional newborn care looks like.
What part of immediate postpartum care do you wish more families understood?

To the mama nursing in the quiet glow of Christmas lights.
To the one rocking a baby while the world sleeps.
To the mother wondering what next Christmas will look like — who will be here, who will be bigger, who might be new.
And to everyone in between!

We see you.
This season isn’t always picture perfect— sometimes it’s soft, heavy, sacred, and unseen. We are celebrating you in every season.
From our Modern Midwives family to yours, may you feel held this Christmas exactly as you are 🤍

✨ C A L E B ✨
This mama labored with such quiet strength—calm, focused, and deeply trusting her body and the work it knew how to do. The journey was long, but she never lost sight of her why.

Her husband stayed by her side through every moment, offering steady, loving support across the days it took to welcome little Caleb earthside. Much of their labor unfolded outdoors—moving between sunshine and fresh air, an outdoor shower surrounded by plants, and a beautiful back patio that held so much intention.

A thoughtful neighbor quietly left offerings along the way—snacks, coconut water, flowers—small gestures that felt like whispers of encouragement. Candles flickered the entire time, and the home remained hushed and reverent as we all waited for this baby to arrive.

After birth, her first postpartum meal was simple and perfect: toast made from the “baby bread” they had baked together on Caleb’s due date. 🤍

December has been a little slower — and now it all makes sense after the baby storm we had last month 🌊✨
Just getting around to sharing all the beautiful births we were honored to witness in November.
11 babies, so much strength, so much awe.

✨K A T H E R I N E ✨

Katherine joined us peacefully on a sunny November day. Her mother had been laboring spontaneously through the night, after patiently waiting 42 weeks for her body to be ready. We joined her in the morning alongside her lovely doula & spent the day by her side as she did the hard work of bringing her first baby earthside. This amazing woman never once said she couldn’t do it, didn’t complain, never doubted. She just breathed through her contractions like she had already had many babies before. And when it came time to push, she did it like an absolute pro. She followed her body so well, pushing with power and gentleness at the same time, pausing to let herself stretch when her baby came to a crown. And soon her beautiful daughter was born, already crying before her body was fully out. We were all completely amazed by this mom! This birth is a beautiful testament to what happens when a laboring mother is unrushed, when her body is given the time it needs to spontaneously go into labor, when trust and power is placed in the hands of the birthing woman. Following this mother’s lead was our honor, your midwives love you baby Katherine 💕

Happy F I F T H Birthday to this sweet boy, Jude! Five whole years ago, this precious baby was born—our very first Modern Midwives baby in the practice. Just like little Jude, our practice has grown exponentially since then. We will forever be grateful to this family for trusting us with their sweet boy. Your midwives love you Jude!

✨ G E N E V I E V E✨
The doula and the midwives had been texting, noticing that things seemed to be getting more intense. When the team arrived, Sara was already concentrating through her contractions, yet she remained quiet and peaceful. It wasn’t immediately clear that it was time to stay, but a check showed she was already 8 centimeters.

Twenty minutes later, her water broke and she began feeling the urge to push with some of her contractions. The team filled the bathtub, and she moved around instinctively, searching for the position that felt right. After a while, she trusted her body and realized the water wasn’t giving her the support she needed to push.

They shifted to the bed, where everyone in the room offered a hand to hold or a steady surface to brace against. Surrounded by support, she brought her baby into the world—fashionably late, just seven minutes past her due date.

✨ Why Homebirth? Let’s Talk About It.

Homebirth isn’t about being “brave” or doing things the hard way.
It’s about being known, being listened to, and being cared for in a way that honors your body, your instincts, and your family.

At home, birth is allowed to unfold in its own rhythm.
You get privacy, safety, connection, and providers who truly see you.
And when you need clinical support, it’s offered thoughtfully — never rushed, never routine, always centered around you.

For many families, homebirth isn’t just where they feel safest…
It’s where they feel most themselves.

If you’re curious about homebirth, or if something in these slides resonated, drop a comment or send us a message.
We’re always happy to talk through your questions and support your journey.
