Wonderful insight on listening to your body. Awareness of behavior!
Here’s one of my favorite client breakthroughs! 🎉
A client of mine had experienced debilitating heartburn for almost 12 years. 😥
Nothing helped. Prescription drugs would work short term, and then mysteriously lose their power. The experts were stumped. His condition not only made him massively uncomfortable, but it impacted his
marriage 💍 ,
his parenting 👶 ,
his job 💻 ,
everything 😐 .
He came to see me as a last resort.
Although he said he’d tried everything, I discovered the one thing he hadn’t tried. I told him:
🌟 “Slow down when you eat. Put yourself in the relaxation response, also known as parasympathetic nervous system dominance.” 💫
Why?
👉 Because the basic physiology of the central nervous system and the gut, as we’ve known for over 75 years, is designed such that we need to be in a state of relaxation when we eat. 💆 🥘
The body doesn’t need to waste energy digesting when we’re in a true survival-based stress response - like when a lion is chasing you, hoping to turn you into a tasty snack. 😱
Oddly enough, fast eating by itself puts the body into a stress response, which can result in belly bloating, gas, indigestion, and…. heartburn! 😔
He made the connection between this and the fact that he knew he had always been a fast eater. 🏃♀️ 🍲
🎉 After a week of slow, relaxed eating, his symptoms had not resurfaced! 🎉
Interestingly for him, the epiphanies and breakthroughs kept coming…💫
He found out:
He moved fast everywhere else in his life. 🏃
His hadn’t been as present in his marriage because of moving so fast.💑�His friends used to poke fun at him for seeming distracted all the time. ✋ �His kids had felt unattended to and asked for more of his attention. 🙅♂️
He’d previously been fired from jobs because he couldn’t retain details because he couldn’t harness his own inner world. ❌
That all changed!
🎉 So even though this client came to see me for specific symptoms, this one nagging symptom became a doorway for some profound personal growth. 🎊
Not only did he relieve the symptom, he received something even bigger - a new way to connect to his loved ones, his work, and the world. 💜 💗
He felt like a better person, and a better man.
He looked within. He woke up. He found himself. 😊
